Ever since we started writing about potential head-coaching candidates in this space, many of you have thrown around the idea of the Eagles pursuing David Shaw.
But you can cross the Stanford head coach’s name off your wish list. He’s staying put.
Shaw has received a long-term contract extension, the school announced today.
“I feel blessed to work every day with an outstanding staff and coach the best group of young men in America, and I am excited to lead the Stanford Football program for many years to come,” Shaw said in a statement, per the San Jose Mercury News.
Shaw was an intriguing name for a number of reasons. Not only has he had success at Stanford, but he’s got NFL experience. Shaw served on the Eagles’ staff in 1997 as a quality control coach and then went on to Oakland (quality control, quarterbacks), Baltimore (quarterbacks, wide receivers) and San Diego (wide receivers, passing game). He also served as the offensive coordinator for four seasons at Stanford before replacing Jim Harbaugh as the head coach.
