QB Update: No News For Foles

Here is the latest on the quarterback situation:

As of early Tuesday afternoon Nick Foles had not received any indication that he is the starter for Monday night in New Orleans, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Does that mean Michael Vick will get the nod? Well, at the very least it means Andy Reid is running short on time if he plans on making a change. The Eagles do not resume practice until Thursday, but you would think he would want to give the rookie as much time as possible to mentally prepare for his first start.

Despite how some interpreted his post-game press conference Vick very much wants to fight to keep the  starting job, and it’s far from a certainty that he would just pleasantly recede into the backdrop if demoted. Reid must consider not just how Vick will react, but also how the rest of the locker room would respond to a QB change. There are sure to be a few veterans that would feel less-than-inspired by a move to a third-round pick with no NFL experience.

A couple players on offense have already been asked about how a quarterback change would be received.

“Well Mike’s a great quarterback — I can’t take anything away from that,” said Brent Celek. “We’ve got other good quarterbacks, too. I’m not the one that makes those decisions. That’s Andy’s decision, and I leave it at that.”

Would Foles be capable of getting the team back on track?

“He’s a good quarterback as well, so yeah,” said Celek.

Jeremy Maclin was asked if a change would provide a spark.

“I don’t know, man,” said Maclin. “I don’t know.”

Vick has completed 59 percent of his throws through seven games for 1,823 yards with nine touchdowns in eight interceptions. Monday would mark his 100th career start.

It would be start No. 1 for Foles if he gets the call. In the preseason, the Arizona product completed 64 percent of his passes and threw six touchdowns to two interceptions for a quarterback rating of 110.1.
