Jenkins Downplays Hamstring Injury

Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins.Cullen Jenkins was out on the field for the Eagles’ walk-through Thursday morning and downplayed concerns about his injured hamstring.

“It’s fine, just a little tweak, so I’ll just try to be smart with it,” Jenkins said.

The injury occurred during one of the looks we’ve seen the Eagles show pretty much on a daily basis this summer. The defensive ends move in and line up a few yards behind the line of scrimmage so that they can get running starts like blitzing linebackers. The defensive tackles, meanwhile, shift out and play end.

“I was standing up in my linebacker spot, running around, probably a little too much running,” Jenkins joked.

Once he left practice yesterday, the first-team defensive line looked like this (from left to right): Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, Derek Landri and Darryl Tapp.

Each of the four players projected to be on the Eagles’ first-team defensive line is currently banged-up. Trent Cole is dealing with an A.C. strain. Jason Babin has a calf strain. And Mike Patterson continues to recover from offseason brain surgery.

While Patterson’s status is up in the air, the injuries to Cole, Babin and Jenkins are considered to be minor.

One last practice note: Left guard Evan Mathis did not participate in this morning’s walk-through. Dallas Reynolds took his place with the first team. According to Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com, Mathis is sick and could be back this afternoon or tomorrow.
