The Overview: Although the communal table under the colossal gold Buddha is a coveted dining spot in Stephen Starr’s first real blockbuster restaurant, the upstairs bar, where you can watch the whole social theater unfold, is also popular. Without benefit of stage or band, Buddakan buzzes like a nightclub. And the food, Asian fusion dishes constructed as avant-garde architecture — edamame ravioli, duck breast with roast garlic five spice jus — is a show all by itself.
