DeSean Jackson Open Thread

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at Minnesota Vikings

We’ll use this space to tie up some odds and ends with DeSean Jackson.

Check back for noteworthy Tweets, links, etc. Here is our main story on Jackson being released. And here is Jackson’s official statement.

2:57 - ESPN's Adam Schefter says there is interest in Jackson already:

3:04 - Could there be a potential reunion with Andy Reid?

3:05 - Ron Rivera of the Panthers tells USA Today his squad would be interested:

"We'd be interested. He's an intriguing player and we'll take a look at him,'' Rivera told USA TODAY Sports from the West Coast. "I just got word and this is surprising to hear. He's an explosive player who has great vertical speed and is strong going to the ball."

3:07 - Eagles center Jason Kelce wished Jackson luck on Twitter, but...

3:24 - A Panthers source tells PFT that the Panthers have no interest in Jackson.

6:37 - Another report linking Reid to Jackson:

6:38 - I thought this was interesting too:

Keep in mind that we'll find out soon enough what teams think about the gang-related stuff when Jackson signs somewhere. Teams will do their homework and decide whether that is a serious concern or not really that big of a deal.

6:41 - Michael Vick chimes in. I still think the Jets make sense for Jackson:

SATURDAY

10:36 - Interesting note here on the Jets:

10:38 - Bucs head coach Lovie Smith tells the Tampa Bay Times his team could take a look at Jackson:

"I've had a chance to be on the other side of the field and have watched him make a lot of great plays," Smith said. "He's a great football player. Of course, we look at everyone we think can help us win."

10:41 - Again, take reports like this with a grain of salt, but:

1:58 - This one's not going to make anyone here happy:

7:04 - The Redskins' interest appears to be legit:

7:05 - And there appear to be a number of teams legitimately interested:

  • Kushan Patel

This sucks. That hypothetical 3rd pick seems juicy as $%&! right about now

    • Yes_General

Yea its really unfortuante that we didnt get anything out of this. If desean was smart he would take a pay cut a play for the 49ers who expressed interest. Crabtree, Boldin, Jackson, Vernon Davis – I mean this would be an unstoppable offense. But i doubt he takes a pay cut so that leaves Chiefs, Raiders and possibly the Jets. I hope he reunites with Andy

      • GEAGLE

Doubt any team in California will touch him…
        ,,
        KC,jets or Seahawks

        • kstagg

          Holy crap. seahawks. Sweet jeebus.

          • GEAGLE

Thats why this is soooo bad. Not only will we get no compensation for losing a probowler in his prime, but we have NO CONTROL over his next destination…thats a problem!! Dude could sign with the cowboys for all we know, where as before we probably would have shipped him to oakland or the jets, and atleast got a 4th or 5th round pick….What a bad day

          • Brian

Dude, come down from the ledge. He was leaving in two seasons anyway. Draft a couple prospects and hope for the best.

  • Joe from Easton

Oh well. Now we can all move on to applicable prognostication.

  • JosephR2225

I think the fans deserve Lurie, Roseman and/or Kelly to get in front of a camera today. I’ll be disappointed if they don’t.

    • GEAGLE

They won’t…sure their lawyers are advising them not to, and If they do, they will say it’s based on focus, work ethic. Attitude and not be willing to talk about the full details at this point or some crap like that

      • ACViking

        GE:

I think from management’s point of view, they just met with the media. Nothing new to add that’s not in the written release.

As for what the teams’ defamation/slander/libel lawyers are saying, I think telling them — if they choose to speak now or ever about Jackson — to stick to the cliches about “best for the club” would be fine.

      • http://batman-news.com manfish

Who cares if they don’t talk about his (DJ) release for legal reasons, they are not going to the superbowl anyway, now it’s itched in stone
Great job Chip Kelley, now it’s on DJ, to choose the right team to get a ring.

      • therealpistolp

        It’s mark Sanchez day!!

    • #7

Get in front of the camera for what? They will always make themselves look good no matter what. They don’t have to say shit and the fans will still fill the seats and they will continue to make money. This was their way out. Not unusual for teams to do this

  • GEAGLE

Basically Elliot SHar parks gave the eagles the get out of jail free card to get out of Deseans contract with an excuse that will keep the pitch forks and torches away…

    • Uncle Wonder

Idk…this isnt Pleasantville…its Philly…there r tougher guys than DeSean on every half block in the city…i think fans will be pissed no matter what.

  • T.O.

Great off season so far…NOT team just got weaker; now they will definitely take a WR in first round. So much for building up the weakest part of team Def.

  • McNabbulousness

hopefully those 6 teams and counting aren’t nfc teams like say the skins, boys, giants, niners, and seahawks; just to name a few

    • GEAGLE

You can bet Pete Carroll will pounce on this opportunity

      • McNabbulousness

jesus, i’d hate to see that team with an honest to god #1 receiver

        • GEAGLE

It’s going down..and we play them this year. Team will get to play the card “he deserves a second chance, help this young Man get his career back on track, blah blah blah”

          • Tikkit

My truest hope is that Oakland, in desperate need of a WR and something positive to save Reggie McKenzie/Dennis Allens jobs, will throw him a stupid contract and we won’t have to worry about him torching Sconces.

    • jt521

not that big a deal since we signed Jairus By…oh, wait.

  • GEAGLE

    KC
    Jets
    Seahawks
    ..
    We lose, others gain…crappy Day.

    • Ark87

very….very crappy, this is such a bummer. Only winning some games will wash this stink away…..when’s our next game?

  • GreenScabs

This is hard to deal with!!!!!! Just knowing another team has the ability to just pick him up off the street! If there isn’t some significant reasonable insight as to why we felt the need to release him I’m going to be infuriated! Teams had to dedicate two players (CB, FS) on DeSean at all times or he would go over the top and make a huge play 80% of the time! You can’t plug and play that kind of in-game break away speed when the ball was in the air……..
If this franchised ended up releasing him because they didn’t like his friends, and there wasn’t some major stink that he caused, than this organization will end up looking absurdly stupid! The fact that this situation got so far out of the organizations control, in terms of keeping the inside information out of the media’s hands, is what makes me the most frustrated to this point.
I can’t imagine them going this route without having major cause, but at this point I have yet to hear any remotely plausible reason why we couldn’t trade him, let only outright release him.
I really hope we get some answers soon……

    • Philly0312

Dude….djax was not doubled at all times. It sucks this happened..but people keep saying this bs…and it just isn’t true.

      • Tikkit

Nope, he wasn’t but he did demand slightly different coverage to help mitigate his speed. Double teaming is a totally overwrought phrase. Just seeing Maclin’s quote about CJ being the only receiver in the league to be double teamed (in goal line situations) lends credence to this.

    • cliff henny

gotta admit, as a 42yr old white man raised in Lancaster, I’ve made the 2nd and 3rd pic all the time, had no idea it gang sign. is simply way I wave hello…maybe picked it up in video?

      • Andy124

Me too, but it’s more vertical and relaxed.

        • cliff henny

I do it palm out. like to know what they mean.

          • Andy124

Yeah, palm out too. Hadn’t noticed that difference. Think it’s safe to say that I haven’t been an inadvertent gang member all these years. Whew!

I was starting to fear for my job security.

          • cliff henny

I’ve tossed it at local myrtle beach sheriff who lives around the corner this morning. wonder if I should prepare for late night swat raid

when the zombies come, i’m not leaving the ‘hood.

or maybe now, I’ll just crash with DJax.

          • cliff henny

          • cliff henny

yup, my freshman year ’90 he did tour of PA state colleges. crazy to think George Carlin was doing 2 shows in Crappy old Shippensburg gym, and it was 50% full.

          • Hiral

Or maybe crash with Riley Cooper or Jason Kelce?

          • Andy124

            teeth gun. I’m still chuckling.

        • Amar (India)

In other news, the Eagles just released Andy and Cliff for talking about gangs.

      • Scott J

Why would you make that hand gesture?

    • #7

      Gotta admit though..not a good look…

    • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

From the smoking gun NJ article:

      “DeSean Jackson was
nowhere near the scene of the crime when…” also “DeSean Jackson was
not part of the case,” Jane Robison, a spokesman for the LA District
      Attorney’s Office, told NJ.com.
“He was not a charged defendant. He was not a witness.” And “Despite
Jackson’s name having come up in connection with two gang-related
murders involving Crips, Crosson said police have no hard evidence that
Jackson is a member of the gang…” (BTW Jackson is wearing Red!!!) No
charges against DJ, nor are there any rumors of an investigation

      SO let’s recap shall we:

      1. He was not charged
      2. He was not a witness
      3. No evidence he’s in a gang
      4. He wasn’t arrested for anything

But now he’s a gang affiliated thug who associated with two murders.

      Gotcha

On and the “sign” on the bottom right I make all the time. Must be a crip..or I mean blood…or something.

      • http://www.corcommunity.com/ theycallmerob

But now he’s a gang affiliated thug who associated with two murders.

        Gotcha

        no one said that

On and the “sign” on the bottom right I make all the time. Must be a crip..or I mean blood…or something.

just makes you dumb, and unlikely to be hired by the Eagles

      • Scott J

The difference with you making that hand gesture and Jackson is, he’s standing next to known crips gang members and his record label records songs from crips members. Specifically the guy who shot the 14 year old.

    • Eagles4Life

LOL this is a fucking joke. It doesn’t surprise me anymore that we don’t have any Super Bowls.

  • mksp

Rams might be interested too. Fisher loves the character risks. Tavon + DeSean on the field together would be pretty sexy.

    • ACViking

That’s the comment of the day. Dry as a M.A.S.H. martini.

  • GEAGLE

Let’s not kid ourselves…Elliot’s article forced the eagles hand today. He probably gave them the heads up last night, Chip told his veteran leaders which is why they all spoke the way they did last night, they all knew this was happening, and not coincidently his release and the story came out at the same time….

  • MartyT

I brought my 7 year old son to meet DJax last summer at a Wounded Warrior Softball event in MD. DJax wouldn’t give my son the time of the day as he was autographing his jersey…in stark contrast to the other players and Wounded Warriors. He was immature at best and can’t say I am sad to see him go.

    • GEAGLE

Awesome reason to lose a probowler in his prime

      • Tikkit

Totally agree. Being aloof is probable cause for 25 to life.

    • #7

So he’s supposed to be a machine and please every single person he meets?

      • MartyT

No, but you have to be a professional and not a complete D-bag (which he was). It was child at a Charity event. Obviously the reports are not flattering to his character and behavior and Eagles lost faith in him. You got to be reliable to remain on the field and a remain a pro bowler.

        • Eagles4Life

And he hasn’t done anything for any other children before, huh?

      • Andy124

        I know I do. ba-dum-ch.

  • Sean

    He can’t & won’t sign with KC… They wear red…

    • Javi Echie

      lol touche

  • takeo

Chip is trying to go Andy’s way and feels he can outsmart everybody.
Very badly managed by the Eagles, you can’t lose an all-pro for free.

  • Philly0312

People…calm down. Not the end of the world….

    • GEAGLE

GTFO here…losing a probowler in his prime without being compensated is horrible!! We better off letting his rookie contract expire and get a compensatory pick a few years ago…Lurie has known about “issues” for years. Teams have security teams, FBI connections.,.desean may not be a criminal , but that’s not why we released him. We released him for affiliation image crap..well I’m sure we had ideas about this crap years ago…

I can live with no Desean…but no Desean and still only 6 picks? While another team will get to reap the rewards and give him a “second chance”…it’s a horrendous day

      • Tikkit

Garbage. No compensation. Boy oh boy they had better have a f-ing “plan”.

      • DharmaBum

Yeah, that is the major downside — the no compensation. No one was more insistent that this would not happen than I was. I was wrong, clearly. I think the Eagles knew some pretty damaging things to have done this now. But you’re right, they had to know that this was possible long ago. They should not have signed him to this past contract. I don’t know whether another team will sign him that quickly, but I believe that without a seismic shift in his personality, that team will pay a price or end up releasing him, as well.

      • Philly0312

Okay…first…drop the FBI crap. As a special agent for 10 years, having “FBI” or intelligence community connections means exactly dick. No FBI agent is passing information regarding DJax to the team security guys, it’s illegal unless it’s part of an ongoing investigation.

Second, it’s not the end of the world, and I will not be surprised if our offense scores more points this year than last year. Shucks we didn’t get a pick, but worse things have happened.

        • DharmaBum

I don’t know that active FBI agents are directly passing info to the Eagles, but it’s a known fact, confirmed by former GM Mark Dominik today, that teams have ex-FBI type investigators on their staffs. Do those guys still know active agents? Sure. Do they get direct info? Who knows. I do know that multi-billion dollar corporations hire the best investigators that money can buy, so if that’s not ex-FBI agents, well…I guess only you would know that. All I know is that such a corporation will devote whatever resources necessary to do the research required to keep tabs on their investments. That’s just common sense.

          • ACViking

What team security gets from an FBI-SA is, at most, something like, “you want to know about D-Jackson . . . problem.”

Otherwise, as Philly0312 wrote, the SA is violating about a half-dozen federal criminal statutes.

An S.A. in a state in the southwest shared investigative information with old friends, albeit watered down, and found himself on the wrong end of a criminal investigation.

          • DharmaBum

That makes sense. My main point is that wherever the Eagles got their info, they knew something compelling enough to prompt this move. The consequences of holding back and trading him to someone who doesn’t realize what they’re getting…well, that would haunt us for years. No choice, really. It’s sad…kid did this to himself.

          • ACViking

            DB:

Sorry, I meant to add that I agree with your general outline.

Teams invest a lot of money in knowing what their guys are up to — to a point.

Generally, there’s no way to know one of your players is planning to commit a murder.

          • DharmaBum

Absolutely. No way to predict that. For the record, I don’t think that kinda thing is in DeSean’s nature, gang member or not. Regardless of whether he’s a card-carrying member of the Crips or not, his social media activity makes pretty plain that he at least THINKS he is a gang member. And that is a problem.

      • #7

We never agree, but you nailed this one. They should shut down the blog now for today after your comment

      • Andy124

Not making any guarantees, but you can hope for an Abreu situation.

      • peteike

umm ya it got worse last few years. thats very likely. Sorry when your HS coach throws you under bus, not a good sign

    • Ark87

Plenty of gang affiliation, typically it’s not the super-stars, though, spotlight’s a bit too bright.

  • Ziggy9000

How many people would have batted an eye last year if the eagles had released Cooper? None. Not just because of his racial comments but because he was an average receiver. Then he has a career year. Racial comments aside, can we not look through the same lens at Desean? Yep, fast, yep, exciting. But his career year came in the same year and same new system as Cooper.

To me, that points to the success of the system. Is it fair to say that Cooper benefitted from Desean? Sure. But its also fair to say Desean benefitted from Shady or our tight ends. Its a team game. If the eagles can get a player that successfully plugs into their system for a fraction of the cost and no perception of “character” issues (real or not), the loss is no longer significant.

Lets reserve panic for a 1-3 start and no plays over 20+ yards… which I just can’t see happening. How many average receivers did Chipper make look great in Oregon?

    • Tikkit

I’m with the no panic thought but what the hell, no compensation!

      • Ziggy9000

Ya, that hurts a bit for sure

    • EagleDuck

I resent the ‘average receivers’ comment. Oregons receivers are far below average thank you very much.

    • TripSquadMonopoly

Lets calm on the tight ends. They haven’t accomplished shit other than being above average in terms of reliability. None is an exceptional blocker and Ertz needs 500+ rec before I even consider him a relative threat. AND this is not college this is the NFL

      • Ziggy9000

This isn’t the NFL?? Aww, I posted on the wrong board again!

Oh no wait… The proof is in Cooper… in the NFL.

Our tight ends weren’t exceptional no, but their impact is a result of the system regardless of their inherent skills.

    • http://batman-news.com manfish

Chip Kelly may have made his biggest mistake of his short NFL carreer. DeSean will be signed soon, I would rather the Seahawks sign him, the Colts need him, and the Jets,or Chiefs may get him, the Panthers wish they could have him, and Denver could use him. DeSean will get his just money, and be happy.

      • http://batman-news.com manfish

The eagles are toast, face it, the best they can do is maybe make the playoffs, and then early out,so sure no need to panic cause there just a losing organization with, or without CK, even Dallas will whip on them this year. Ha,ha,ha.

  • Sean

BRANDIN COOKS, tho?! Same measurables as DeSean at the combine… (Hopefully not in a gang.) A PAC12 play-making WR to join the PAC12 play-maker at QB?

    • DharmaBum

Better measurables across the board, than DeSean…and taller, bigger kid.

    • Jerry Pomroy

Kelly doesn’t want a DeSean clone. He wants big, strong and fast. Not just fast.

      • cliff henny

like that avante adams, he could be part of trade back pick up 3rd. need more picks. what bothers me most, losing jax for nothing

      • LookinAtMyGucci

I don’t equate him to a DJ clone. He seems to be a much more polished overall receiver coming out of college than DJ was.

        • Jerry Pomroy

But he still wants bigger I think.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

Maybe. Probably. Guess we’ll see come May 8 haha

          • Jerry Pomroy

I know right. Jesus, that feels so far away.

  • Kd711

DeSean Jackson was cutting meetings to hang out with friends, a source confirmed. Relationship with Kelly was also a big concern. #Eagles— Eliot Shorr-Parks (@EliotShorrParks) March 28, 2014

    • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

Now I’ll buy that. THAT makes sense…not that much sense when your guy is producing 1382 yards and 9 TDs.

But if you’re the type to want to make an example of someone well…

  • Neanderthal

I guess maybe I wasnt such a moron when I said a week or so ago that the only way this made sense is if it was a Aaron Hernandez type of a situation.

  • Neanderthal

I did not want to lose Desean, but lets look at it like this, Last year we had Desean.and Avant. This year we have Maclin, Sprouls and probably a draft pick or 2.

  • ryan shirk

Oh boy chip your flirting with fire. I pray your right. Idk if you heard but us philly fans cans be a little “rough”. GOOD LUCK

  • Tikkit

As much as I hate to say it, Mike Friggin Florio was all over this. He’s been saying unequivocally that DJax would be traded/released for weeks.

    • LookinAtMyGucci

Didn’t he take the “until it sticks” approach? Throw every POS theory against the wall and see what sticks. He just got lucky.

  • Jerry Pomroy

As I thought, league will come down on DJax after confirmation from LAPD detective confirms that he has been throwing Crip gang signs in social media as well as on field. I’m sure the gang ties themselves will also fall under scrutiny under league’s personal conduct policy.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/28/league-has-no-comment-on-desean-jacksons-alleged-gang-signs/

right, the same guy just signed 6 yrs 36m contract, sure he thinks Howie and lurie crap gold

      • DAS

I know you guys are mad (shit, I am also), but you have to believe there’s some legitimacy to the accusations that DeSean was into some sketchy off-the-field stuff. No other teammate jumped to his side after this release became public!

        • cliff henny

let me hear what trent cole thinks, he’s 90% out the door, nothing to lose.

I though Mychal Kendricks said Jackson was misunderstood and a good guy a week or two back.

      Did someone get to him?

  • Honest_T

Someone mentioned the retired FBI agents employed by NFL franchises, and there was a story about one on the Saints payroll that blew the whistle on Sean Payton using the team’s pharmaceutical supply as his personal medicine cabinet…The Saints reaction was to fire a 30 year vet of the FBI and sweep the drug abuse and team’s inability to secure it’s controlled substances under the rug.

    I applauded the Eagle’s morality.

    • cliff henny

was this before or after Super Bowl? maybe Lurie needs to crack a few more eggs and get a Lombardi before taking every highroad he can find with our loyalty.

      • Honest_T

I think they won in 2009 and the stories broke in May of 2010. So I guess if D-Jax brought us a trophy he’d still be and Eagle.

        • cliff henny

other way around. win one and he can take all the high roads he wants. coming out eagles turned down picks cause they didn’t want to trade damaged goods.

          • Honest_T

Really, isn’t that what capitalism is all about? It’s not like Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys to redistribute the wealth he accumulated by exploiting the presence of a natural resource beneath his feet. He had one player kill another and stood him on the sideline the next week.

thats the way it always works

its because of hernandez, getting ahead of curve. nothing more. Not worth risk I guess

        • cliff henny

guess can extrapolate anything out. jax just got carried away w/ jaccpot persona, don’t think he leading multi-state drug cartel while smoking angel dust

          • Honest_T

I actually think Jaccpot is a front used to launder the gangs income. There is no way that label makes money, but I bet it spends a ton of cash in the community, and DJax uses the tax losses to shelter his income. It is a good tax shelter but could also be used to “clean” some of the money for the gangs illicit activities.

I have no evidence of that but that was my thought when I found out what the spelling meant.

          • cliff henny

agree 100%, no 1000% on 1 part, there is no that label makes money. wow, if diamonds on my neck is best they got, serious money pit

  • Adam G

If we make the leap that the best they could’ve gotten was a 5th rounder, then in their eyes it probably wasn’t worth the risk of trading him and the other team getting pissed.

    • anon

Pissed about what caveat emptor. They didn’t have a partner before the article came out. after that it was game over.

    • RIP illa

Anon’s right. They could have still tried for a trade while being candid, instead of the BS, ‘we felt it was right not to trade him…’ That’s not in the best interest of the team. And if they continue to let info leak that is damaging to DJax, then there’s something up…Smear campaign and career murder. If they wanted to be the good guy, and this was a wake up call for DJax, then you start, with trying to or hoping that he rebuilds his life from this point. Not continue to bring him down.

  • GEAGLE

Cant believe desean isnt an eagle and we still only have 6 draft picks…

Can i get a tampering pick or something? Daaaaaamn..

Curious to know if Media darling Richard Sherman also from Compton, and Stanford has flashed gang signs in games or on twitter? How common is it? Is desean one of the only NFL players doing this, or are we blaming him for something thats common league wide?
    ..
Hard to figure out if other shoes are about to drop, which i kind of find hard to believe, or if this is an excuse to get his contract off the books? But if there is no other shoe to drop, why wouldnt we have held on to him and continued to try and trade him? Even if you can only get a stinking 7th round pick, atleast you can control which team he plays for next…rather ship him to the jets then see Pete carroll make out like a bandit, especially when we have to play the seahawks this year,,.

Confused, no idea what tp make of all this

How common are gang-bangers in the NFL?

Here’s a study on the prevalence of gang members on NCAA teams.
      http://ht.cdn.turner.com/si/images/2011/12/01/NCAA_Report_-_June_13.pdf

      The take away:

“Youth gang members as student athletes in colleges and universities have surprised even the most attentive observers. This reality is startling considering that gang membership has been correlated with academic failure.”

      • imnotsorryisaidthat

He’s not a gang member. And if you tell him he is he’ll bust a cap in your face

        • ACViking

Just responding to GEagles’ question about how commonplace is gang membership among NFL players.

D-Jax? No evidence that he is. Presently.

          • imnotsorryisaidthat

Seriously he wasn’t cut just for his wanna be gang ties,he makes to much cash,he pouts,he is a me first player,he showed that under reid and Kelly saw flashes of it and said no thank you

          • ACViking

            I —

I don’t disagree. In fact, I affirmatively agree.

          • DharmaBum

I agree as well. Is he a member of a gang? Who knows, but he certainly seems to THINK he is, judging from his social media posts. But that’s not the whole story. It’s allocated resources, attitude problems, missing meetings, pathological dissatisfaction with how he’s paid/utilized/appreciated, and — even if the robbery and gang stuff doesn’t pan out — just general turdishness. At some point, you have to say enough.

I think that what Kelly has done is almost unprecedented in the NFL. Not even the release of Cris Carter measures up to this as an out-of-the-blue (at the time) move. Chip is doing something that a lot of coaches preach, but don’t really practice. He’s saying that no one player is bigger than the team, and he’s backing it up. Something that Andy said, with DeSean in mind, but never followed through with. I think the guys left in the Birds locker room will respect Chip even more now.

          • anon

he’ll find out. You see vince willfork got paid. edelman got paid. revis got paid. Pats learning the hard way players matter.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

Wilfork has 3.5 guaranteed in his deal. He took that deal to not have to uproot his family. Edelman got paid because FA didn’t solve the receiver issue they thought they’d be able to solve after botching the negotiations with Welker.

          • DharmaBum

That’s true, it’s often a difficult balance, and one that Andy obviously tried to manage. In this case, though, it was time. We’ll certainly be worse off without him in the short-term, and I’m really disappointed to see him go, but we’ll survive. And I think the locker room/coach dynamic will be better for it.

          • anon

Honestly i agree. But remember when Jets got rid of Revis and got Milliner?

It’s tough — meant so much to the fan base as far as explosiveness. He’ll be replaced, etc.

I will however never hate one a person for trying to re-negotiate their deal mid-contract — you could get cut any time.

          • Jerry Pomroy

I think that was more or less what Kelce’s one tweet was referencing.

    • peteike

didnt they say work ethic and attitude. Company line, nfl live said they didnt want to pawn his problems off on other team

    • Tom w

More is coming. Eagles didn’t cut him bc of the gang affiliationS. The robbery is square at the center along w djax refusal to grow up at 27 yr olds and leave bad influences in the past after Howie gave him a two yr chance and chip gave him a year. Trade market was nonexistent once teams heard the dirt and knew was djax was into. Plus being said eagles didn’t want to dump djax on another unknowing team. Time to move on.

      • RIP illa

I’m still not buying that, since the police basically closed the case on the staged robbery angle! And he’s not affiliated, he’s associated…Big Big difference. If he’s affiliated, then he’s a criminal…pretty much. Now if the Eagles wanna go digging around to find more dirt on him, in wake of the police quotes, then this is just one big lynching and F U to Djax that they are pulling…and shame on them for doing so. You can cut a player based on negative influences, be completely up front with other teams…if he’s still your problem, and such and such, without trying to destroy the man’s career.

        • Jerry Pomroy

I highly doubt that they’d try to dig up further info. He’s no longer a part of the team. No longer their problem or concern.

I do have one question, does flashing the gang symbols affiliate or associate him to the gang? It’s my impression that is more affiliation than association, as you’re displaying your connection to that gang by being in it (or wanting to be). The pics with him and the gang members associates, and for some, guilty by association is enough.

          • RIP illa

Rules change…It’s supposed to be affiliate, but I can’t tell you the number of conflicts I’ve been in where people just do that shit or claim a set, with no actual gang involvement. Plus people make up so many different hand signs and such, and it’s viewed as cool. But this particular case…I’m hard pressed to believe that Djax is that stupid, despite being this sorta stupid. I don’t honestly know anymore on how the kids do it nowadays.

    • RIP illa

Flashing gang signs isn’t the end all be all, and I do believe a lot of people (generational) do it as a sign of being cool, which sometimes is being ignorant. Really do think the murder investigations, to which he had no part of, gave the Eagles all they needed to let him go. Whether it was cover or not for them…it was all they needed nonetheless.

  • Fryer

Great player but this offense will be fine. Gang stuff aside we’ve been talking about releasing or trading this guy for awhile now It’s not like one article is released and all the sudden out of nowhere did Desean get is let go. Oregon never had good WR’s when Chip was there and they did great. Another offseason for Foles and another year the offense will have under the system will make up for Desean easily. I hope we do get another big WR though

  • Token

Doesnt anyone find it interesting that the locker room has no issue with this? When TO left it split the locker room. TO. This team has no issue with Jackson being gone. That speaks volumes.

Ive made it known what I think about him on the field. But theres all this off the field stuff. Derrick Gunn says much more will come out over the coming months. From friends coming to NovaCare, him missing meetings. Still being the kid we thought might just grow up someday but didnt.

The gang stuff may all be BS, but really that doesnt even matter. Theres enough there to justify moving on even without taking gang stuff into account. If hes not a good locker room presence, in addition to the missing meetings etc…. Hes just not good enough a player to overlook all this stuff forever. Especially not at this much money. Maybe the Eagles thought hed grow up. He didnt.

Gunn also mentioned they have been looking at dealing him since last spring. True? I dunno. But there were other rumors of that. They tried to get something out of him and just couldnt do it. I think they gave him a contract they thought theyd be able to rip up and redo this season if they wanted to keep him and that didnt happen. So they were left with trading or cutting him. Nobody wanted that contract. And I imagine this gang story was the final straw. So they cut their loses. Chip probably didnt care for him from the start.

    • Andy124

I heard what Gunn was selling and to be honest, I’m buying it.

      • Token

Hes not the only Philly reporter saying this kind of stuff either.

    • anon

When has anyone ever quoted gunn on breaking news before? If you read his article critically it really doesnt say much about desean, past instances (one completely adjudicated) involving people he knew but not really involving him. it’s worse journalism than kemspki’s article considering the ramifications on djax’s career.

If i’m djax my lawyers are reading that article really closely for anything that he’s written that’s actionable.

      • Token

I think a lot of people are really emotional right now and not thinking clearly. Many are mad enough that they were so off base on this issue that they are now throwing out either a race issue or that its a media conspiracy and everyone is lying. Come to grips.

        • Tom w

          Right again.

        • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

come to grips with he’s maybe poosibly friends woth someone who was found not guilty of a crime?

oh and that he’s never been arrested, tried, convicted, of anything significant.

oh and he’s the best wideout on the team?

What’s true is that he probably didn’t buy in to the Chip Way though he still produced on the field. That makes sense. It’s stupid. But that makes sense.

Of course for some of you DJax (never been arrested, tried, convicted) is a tug…right up there with Richard Sherman. lol

Actually, I am black and could care less for Djax or your boy Vick(So glad he is gone). You seem to have this fascination with players who have merely been symbols of the pathetic play the last 3+ years. Sure Djax had a decent year last year, mostly due to Vick force feeding him the first few weeks. Granted he did show up a few times for Foles( against the Raiders and Bucs of course) but was a noticable disappointment in almost ALL of our critical games, not just last season. Djax was fun for a while, but definitely grew tiresome at the end of the day. Dude will NEVER sniff the Hall of Fame, and at his level of play, the fan base should have been demanding nothing short of that sort of effort, and quite frankly he hadnt given that sort of effort all the time, but sure was happy to take the money as if he was. People need to get over themselves. I can’t stand the brat and all his wanna-be Crip antics. If he wants to hang out with KNOWN gang members; who most likely only beat the case because the other guy took the fall knowing he would get a light sentence (15-life for a murder is VERY VERY light ) and a financial kickback, then let the punk do what he wants to do. Just get him off this team. NOW we can truly move on from the last 5 plus years of false bravado.

          • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

            LOL.

            I’m glad you’re black.

Doesn’t make your comment any less idiotic.

Oh and had Foles “force fed” Jackson the ball more we likely could have won the playoff game against NO.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

It wasn’t idiotic at all. Most of what you’ve posted has been, however. Shouldn’t you be on a Jets board, now?

          • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

Funny…I’m supposedly the one who is supposed ot be on the Jets board…but you and others are the only one bringing up the Jets.

            Amazing how that works.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

It’s not. It’s actually quite simple. You’re a Vick fan first and foremost. Therefore, you should be on a Jets board. Do you understand that simple logic, yet?

          • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

            Do you hear yoursel?

Your “simple logic” is telling me who and what I’m a fan of and where I should be posting.

I’m so glad you know more about me and my fandom than I do.

          • phillyphanlvnv

No, but you stumped pretty hard for Vick the last few years… I do remember that much.

          • Jerry Pomroy

Yes even when Foles was on a win streak and Vick was on the sidelines and even said himself not to pull Foles. She made her argument surrounded tearing down Foles (and Cooper albeit as he was having greater success at the time than DJax) with only the motive to elevate Vick. That my friends is a farse fan that clearly only wanted to cheer Vick than celebrate in the wins.

J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets. Just in case she needed to know their fight chant.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

Everyone knows it. It’s not like you hide it. And everyone who posts here regularly was pretty happy with the fact that we weren’t hearing from you by the end of the season.

          • Bleedgreen

Is it a coincidence that Desean started getting the ball once Keenan Lewis got hurt in that game? No. Desean couldn’t create any separation against Lewis. For all the flash Desean provided, he never showed up in the big games. Other than the NFC Championship game against the Cardinals, Desean has been taken out of every big game the Eagles played. 2009 playoffs against Dallas…nowhere to be found. 2010 playoffs against GB…again, nowhere to be found. Get over it. Desean was flashy, but not imposing. He was shut down by good to great defenses. He feasted on mediocre defenses

          • http://abigbuttandasmile.com/ A Big Butt and a Smile

            *sigh*

            – All-22 shows otherwise darling.
            – Foles wasn’t comfortable making the throw..so he didn’t.

            – Even those reporting on the game talked about jax being open. Guess you didn’t hear that either.

          • Bleedgreen

The All-22 shows a lot, but can also be deceiving at time. Yeah he may be open, but who knows what the playcall was, or where Foles was looking at the time of the snapshot.

If this had been the only time Desean was taken out of a playoff game, I’d be ok, but it’s been the norm. I want a receiver like Boldin, who shows up in these kind of games. I just don’t see that out of Desean. Whether you’re open or not, great WR’s don’t get taken out of playoff games like Desean has. I love all of the great plays and memories he’s given us as Eagle’s fans but he he’s not someone who is going to will the Eagle’s to a Super Bowl like Boldin did for the Ravens. You don’t spend $10.5M dollars on a guy who disappears in the biggest games

          • RIP illa

Exactly by the link you just posted. I’m not in the mood nor state, to discuss this further with you, cuz I’ll probably get angry and say shit that I shouldn’t and don’t wanna offend you. However, it has been discussed already and is in previous threads, as recently as this week.

          • Bleedgreen

So you’re telling me you’re impressed with what he’s done in the playoffs?

            Dallas: 3 catches 14 yards 1 TD
            GB: 2 catches 47 yards 0 TD
            NO: 3 catches 63 yards 0 TD

I’m not trying to get in a pissing match with you. I’m just just trying to have a discussion. I don’t see how you can defend what he’s done in the postseason. His first year was great, but beyond that, I’ve seen nothing special.

          • Bleedgreen

Well said. He was the Eagles superstar during some of the worst seasons in the past 15 years for the Eagles…that says a lot

Ok dude. You’re just a Djax hater. It’s cool though, at least you finally let it out after several post. And please quit throwing out the “I’m black” thing. We get it. Maybe the way I have my page set up, but it is wearing thin. So please distinguish your hate of him, hate of gangs, and racism…or you are no better than the certain people you are trying to go against!!!

          • phillyphanlvnv

Everyone just keeps playing off that this kid was with a KNOWN gang member. F that. Kinda pisses me off that the Eagles knew this and made no move on it earlier. Probably holding out hope he would change. Well as we learned with Aaron Hernandez, paying them just emboldens their stance, and ultimately, just helps to further finance illegal activities not limited to murder. If we should have learned ANYTHING recently when it comes to athletes and sports, it should be to take a lesson from the Sam Hurd, Aaron Hernandez types. You give a criminal or criminal minded individual money, they will just find a way to funnel said funds into unsavory activities. You pay a player, and said player finds a way to pay a longtime friend who also happens to be a member of the Crips gang as a rapper, no telling what carnage his money went into financing. The Crip gang terrorizes the black community EVERYDAY, but everyone just wants to play off the money this kid has paid a KNOWN member, to make music that is OBVIOUSLY not selling. So what is the reason for signing this kid and giving him money? have you heard ANY of his raps?

          • RIP illa

Had me until money laundering. DJax doesn’t make enough to “legitimately” launder, unless he’s Sam Hurd-ing it!!!

          • Jeff Asay

Had me until you posed as an expert on money laundering. Are you? Half a million is plenty to legitimately launder. How many guns can you buy for 500k?

          • RIP illa

Wow…ok. I guess you missed the part about Sam Hurd, which would contain reinvesting in “criminal activity”…ie, buying drugs and weapons.

          • RIP illa

My bad, brainfart…How would buying 500k worth of guns be legit money laundering? The one of the main, if not the main, point of money laundering is to turn that cash into LEGAL money and/or assests! You launder money obtained from criminal activity!!! You don’t take legal money and launder it through criminal activity!!! That’s not laundering…that’s funding! So I was wrong with my statement about Sam Hurd-ing it! But then again, I was drinking last night. The point I was trying to make is that the dude’s point was cool up until the money laundering thing.
And cops have clearly stated that, as of now, DJax is not affiliated, which means he is not funding or engaged in criminal activity.
I don’t have to be an expert to know the difference between laundering and funding.

          • Jeff Asay

My bad. You’re right. It’s not the definition of money laundering. It is the funneling of cash through a legitimate looking business to illegal activity, which would be like the the mosques who collect money to fund terrorists. Or the federal government collecting taxes to overthrow a government or kill a non-citizen. So Jackson is suspected of, or rumored to be, using his rap label to fund gang activity. That right? Btw: didn’t need all the !!! to comprehend. Lol

          • Jeff Asay

Btw: wouldn’t Jackson’s play count as illegal activity, so passing it through his rap label would be laundering? Hahahaha

          • phillyphanlvnv

The comments made about Richard Sherman were racist white people using generalizations to describe him, based solely off his color and post game attitude. Djax is looked at as a thug, because quite frankly, that is the image he WANTS to have. One of a young neighborhood brother throwing up gang signs as though to intimidate his rivals. Jackson WANTS to be a thug, Sherman was just labeled. Richard Sherman didn’t go up to Crabtree and throw up the Rollin 60’s or Ceder Black Piru gang signs. Jackson CLEARLY does it both on his Instagram and in games. Not to mention the KNOWN gangmember he pays, just to pay. Oh that’s right, he’s a terrible rapper who has NO MUSIC in circulation to be spoken of. Basically, he is paying money into the Crip gang through legal avenues. Money laundering anyone? LOL

    • Tom w

      Spot on.

    • LookinAtMyGucci

I shared, earlier in the week, something I learned from someone in the know, which SalPal is currently spouting on ESPN. Chip and DJ did not have a good relationship, and basically touched on most of what you just said, the missed meetings, not a great attitude, etc. This NJ.com report was the straw that broke the camel’s back… Apparently, Caplan’s reporting, the Eagles are re-working the language in their contracts to better protect themselves for situations like this, I guess.

    • TripSquadMonopoly

Tell me in whos best interest in the locker room is it to publicly state that they don’t agree with management in deciding to release Djac. Delusions much.

      • Tom w

Players do it all the time. Wake up

        • LookinAtMyGucci

          Talking to yourself? lol

          • Ark87

such a concise rebuttal, going to start setting myself up to take myself down as well.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

            I imagine it’s fun.

          • Andy124

            Looks fun to me.

          • Andy124

            No it doesn’t, dumbass.

          • Andy124

Why you gotta be so rude?

          • Ark87

            ANDY SLAAAAAAM!

          • LookinAtMyGucci

Hope you’re okay after the slam. Or at least have a phone handy if not.

          • Jerry Pomroy

            It’s OK. He’s got life alert…

          • Jerry Pomroy

Was that you talking to your 2 alter egos our just having a conversation with yourself? Either way works.

          • Andy124

            yes

          • Jerry Pomroy

Sounds like the answer I’d give my wife.

          • Andy124

Depending on the context, that could either get you on the couch or save you from it.

          • Jerry Pomroy

No couch. Not my wife. She loves my sense of humor.

          • oreofestar

how about you refresh your page and check the comment again

Disqus made it way more fun this way though.

Blount signs for $1m/yr can’t believe we didnt’ pull that trigger.

    • Tom w

Chip knows him better than anyone. Gave him a second chance at Oregon when the entire nation wanted to kill him. Think we like our kids

    • oreofestar

I mean, whatever really with Sproles and Brown and Polk behind the 2nd best rb in the league we already have a crowded backfield

      • anon

Clear out that trash behind Shady / Sproles — Blount would beast in a RO offense.

        • Andy124

trash? I thought you were a huge Brown fan???

          • anon

I am — i was going to put a disclaimer — but didn’t think anyone would call me out. That said even i can see that we need a RB like Blount more than one like Brown. #realitychecc

          • LookinAtMyGucci

Hahaha I see what you did there

          • Andy124

            You’re fired.

      • Ark87

wouldn’t mind that power. At his best he is Bettis-esque, we could make room for that.

        • Jerry Pomroy

Nothing wrong with a big butt type ‘back. Especially when paired with Shady & Sproles.

          • Andy124

Does he come with a smile too? May change how he’s viewed around here.

          • Jerry Pomroy

Nah, that butt is just way too big.

          • Ark87

oh god, she was a Steeler’s fan the whole time!?!?! It makes so much sense now, Bettis troll.

          • A Roy

            Excellent…

          • Ark87

absolutely, that was supposed to be an endorsement on my part, haha.

          • Jerry Pomroy

I was adding my endorsement. However it appears Andy summoned the troll.

          • Ark87

she whose name must not be insinuated…

          • Jerry Pomroy

Yes that one. Hopefully Token can banish her once again to back under the rock from whence she came.

  • Andy124

I don’t mind the Eagles cutting DJ. I’m quite confident they would’t do so if they didn’t have very good reasons, and they have a lot more information at their disposal than I do.

I also don’t feel any need to make up my mind about Jackson right now. Maybe he’s a good guy who was a bad fit, maybe he’s a thug a-hole. I don’t need to know right now. Lets me still hope for the best. Always want the guys you’ve cheered for for years to be good guys. Or at least not too bad.

  • LookinAtMyGucci

The draft just got a whole lot more interesting.

    • oreofestar

No now it is worse now we have another glaring need like we needed more and we still have 6 picks

      • LookinAtMyGucci

You have quite the flare for the dramatic.

        • oreofestar

          why thank you :)

    • Ark87

Desperation is more interesting when it’s other teams squirming…

      • LookinAtMyGucci

I don’t think we’re as desperate as some are making it out to be. We were coming away with a WR or two anyway.

        • Ark87

I think that was true, but I was expecting maybe a second round talent nestled away in the 3rd since all the other teams sated their WR needs in the early rounds, now It’s looking like the 1st, and possibly a few more picks to move up, whereas before I was kind of leaning towards a possible move back to nab a few picks.

      • anon

I planned on spending all offseason making fun of the cowboys — but we dump djax and pick up sanchize in one week?

  • oreofestar

That 3rd round pick they were talking about before looking hella juicy right about now

    • Eagles4Life

      LOL

  • Hiral

    I am highly disappointed

  • Hiral

It’s very disappointing that we can let a man who made racist remarks remain on the team then release a man who is associated allegedly with a gang member who was acquitted of all charges.

    • Ark87

You cut and sign based on future projections, no as a reward or punishment for past actions. So in this case, they judged cooper to not really be a racist, and correctly predicted he would be able to reintegrate back into the locker room and thrive. Right or wrong, they felt that Jackson’s history will continue to cause problems in the future.

      • Andy124

Hadn’t even thought of that angle. That’s very good.

      • botto

do non-racists use the most racist word ever?
        i dont think so.
i get it why they kept him but please don’t try to pretend cooper isnt racist.

        • Ark87

tons of non-racists use the most racist word word ever. Not hard to find an exception.

        • IAteLunchToday

Randy said it on Wheel of Fortune and he’s not racist.

        • GEAGLE

You are an idiot…do you even know what racism is? Its HATING an entire group of people because they are different then you…you cant have like 30 black friends who you are tight like brothers with, and be racist…it dosnt work that way..
In his case, do you really think he hates all black people? You think his relationship with Avant is fake? Last i checked avant was part of the african american race,…
          ….
When you are at the level of rage that you want to fight people and rip their face off you have reached the point where you want to HURT someone as bad as you can, in any way possible…,instead of crucifying him, because he was a step away from beating the living crap out of a human being, our dumb ass focus on words that came out of his mouth? News flash, he didmt want to beat the crap out of that dude because he was black….and when you want to do legitimate damage to a human being, its safe to say you will saying anything you possibly can to hurt that human being. If it would have been a japanese man it would have been a different hateful word. If it was a white man like him, he would have looked for the most hurtful thing he could have possibly said. Called him fat, gay, whatever he thought had the best chance of hurtting that person,,,,

We are talking about a guy who has had real brother type bonds with african americans his entire life..a racist white man, doesnt have to get to the point where he wants to smash someones face in for his “racism to kick”, he would despise all black people at all times, no matter if he is dead sober, in a good mood whatever….thats what real racism is…its a slap in the face to the african americans that really really had to deal with REAL RACISM…the type of racism where a white guy who had never seen them before could drive by them, see them for a split second and HATE him with a passion just because he or she had darker skin…Men who were discriminated against constantly, and hated at all times by people who didnt know anything about them…now sure their are real racist who play by the rules of society and hide it…
          ..,
But if Riley is a racist then he would have to be faking his love/brother relationship with Jason Avant…and I simply dont believe that

          • Jeff Asay

Exactly. You capture it so well. Sometimes I skip your long posts, but this was required reading. Everyone in the city should be reading this post and discussing.

      • Jerry Pomroy

Agreed. Riley was ashamed though. DJax openly flaunts it.

    • phillyphanlvnv

KNOWN gangmembers you are paying for NO REASON. This guy doesn’t have ANY music to be spoken of. So what is he being paid as an artist for?

    • phillyphanlvnv

And also Hiral, when is the last time a white person has done ANYTHING to honestly hold you back due to NOTHING BUT RACE?? Let that go man. It’s a word uttered at a time when a man was truly hammered. Quite frankly as a black man living on the West Coast, I am far more terrified of neighborhood crip gangs than some idiot yelling the N word at me. More than likely, i am making more money than said idiot throwing the word at me, but quite frankly, racist have little to no power these days.

      • Jerry Pomroy

That was an absolutely well written rebuttal!

        • RIP illa

Might have been well written, but still gotta SMH at the downplay.

    • phillyphanlvnv

And get serious, it’s not an alleged association. It’s a known association, that goes back to childhood and the guy that isn’t DJax ABSOLUTELY IS a gang member. Again, the gangs cause far more problems in MY community than some drunk young millionaire yelling some word that we ourselves have systematically worked to make powerless against us.

  • Hiral

I have a question wasn’t Jason Kelce at that concert with Riley when he uttered those amazing words???? Hmmmmm

    • Andy124

You know who I know what at that concert? Kenny Chesney. And the Eagles aren’t cutting him either. I see a trend developing here.

And what about the security guard Riley was yelling at? He was there too. Smells fishy to me.

    • Ark87

You can follow the “eagles are racist” logic path…just make sure you take it to the end of the path and properly laugh upon reflection

      • Andy124

laugh upon reflection… because it leads to a mirror?

    • Richard Colton

Shut up. The extra three “Ms” doesn’t make your post more profound.

      • Andy124

Couldn’t undo the damage the first 81 letters did.

    • Jerry Pomroy

Yes, but from the footage it looked as though he was swaying… That’s grounds for dismissal! Cut his ass! ;-)

    • phillyphanlvnv

I have a question, when is the last time you were denied employment, or a loan from a bank, or any kind of prejudice against you that held you back from getting ahead in life? Now when is the last time a Crip gang member murdered, robbed, or raped someone in the black community? probably about 30 min, but definitely within the last 24 hours!!! By the way, I’m black!

      • Jerry Pomroy

Yeah that deserves an up vote!

      • RIP illa

So two wrongs, but yet one is right??? Guess you’re just gonna let go of the fact that racism kills and has killed a lot!!! I’m not pro Hiral or whatever his name is, nor do I wanna come to his defense…but please don’t downplay. If you wanna say that they are not one in the same, then fine, go right ahead, but seems, like some over stepping is definitely occurring. I’ll just leave it at that.

        • LookinAtMyGucci

          Maybe you’re dealing with a habitual line-stepper.

          • RIP illa

Is he, could he be…Rick James reincarnated???
You sir…you win the day with that one. Too funny!

That’s it. Gotta add Dave Chapelle Show to my Netflix queue.

          • RIP illa

            you haven’t already??? LOL

          • Andy124

Can we work in a “Ain’t No Half-Steppin” joke here somehow? That was a great song.

          • Andy124

If memory serves, he started going all-in on love-rap after a bit. Was cool in small doses (like 1-song-small) but beyond that I wrote him off. He taught me the word, aphrodisiac. lol

“The results of these studies were startling. Among those with no criminal record, white applicants were more than twice as likely to receive a callback relative to equally qualified black applicants. Even more troubling, whites with a felony conviction fared just as well, if not better, than a black applicant with a clean background.”

Odell Beckham I am waiting for you

  • DJ

I don’t mind moving on from DJax. But I’m pissed we released him. We should’ve gotten a 3rd or 4th round pick in a loaded draft.

    • mksp

      I mean, clearly we couldn’t.

  • Dave

    Am I understanding this correctly?

Essentially any team could of traded for DJax for say a 7th rounder, paid him no guaranteed money and cut him losing only a 7th rounder if it didn’t work out. But they didn’t. Now that he is a FA he’s gonna structure a new deal with new guaranteed money. Why not take him for just a 7th, no money, then restructure if he works out?

I’d be surprised if he is signed quick. Maybe the NFL will even come down and suspend him for the skins game stuff??

    • Jerry Pomroy

I’ve already mentioned that last part and the answer is yes. But they could even go further into the social media pics flashing the crip signs and also investigate his known association/affiliation with the gang and suspend for violation of the personal conduct rules.

    • Mr. Magee

Great point. Except it appears the eagles would not have accepted…
Apparently mgmt decided it made more sense to just cut ties, rather than get into a full on discussion with another team as to what they knew, other concerns they may have had, etc; not worth it for a late round draft pick.

My sense is they probably did DJ a favor by handling it the way they did. As to wether it was the right move or not, only time will tell.

  • Jerry Pomroy

What many are failing to recognize is that DJax could very well be suspended for violating the NFL’s personal conduct code. No team is openly going to sign him without knowing the ramifications of the investigation the NFL will almost certainly be conducting. They certainly won’t hand him guaranteed money to serve a lengthy suspension.

    • Ark87

      good point

    • LookinAtMyGucci

No one wants to actually believe Florio’s article on the subject might be correct haha.

    • RIP illa

Chiefs have just been tied to him. What the F can they really do to him??? He’s done nothing wrong, as of yet, except have questionable friends/associates. That’s why I’m getting more and more pissed at the Eagles and what they are saying after the fact, and what is being leaked. And still pissed about the way they handled everything before the cut.

      • LookinAtMyGucci

He apparently violated the personal conduct policy by throwing up those very gang signs… If it makes you feel better, the Titans are reported to be releasing Chris Johnson next week.

        • RIP illa

How would that make me feel better, and you gotta get me a link to the rules about throwing up gang signs! And unless they wanna make an example, which I am not for, for so many many reasons…then the fact of no criminal negligence, affiliation, and or activity, should rule that BS out, and at most result in a fine and not suspension.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

I can give you a “How to use Google” Guide :)… Florio reported it, so I didn’t believe it until I saw a couple other posts on the Tweeter.

          • RIP illa

            What the hell’s a Tweeter :-)

          • LookinAtMyGucci

That thing all the cool kids and idiotic professional athletes are doing. You know, when they hijacked the pound sign?

          • Andy124

            What the hell’s a Tweeter :-)

It’s kinda like ‘the shocker’ but also makes use of a small speaker in a way not appropriate for a public forum. Trust me, your woman will love it.

          • Andy124

It is a crime again humanity that this has not elicited a chuckle, smirk or groan.

Sorry man. Went AFK to watch the hangover 3…Shoulda just stuck with you. You’re definitely funnier than that garbage.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

And you should feel better because they’re similar in being dynamic players. Even if CJ hasn’t had the stats, he’s never had less than 1000 yd (something DJ can’t claim ;) ).

          • RIP illa

Can he play WR? If not I don’t feel better.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

He can from the backfield. Does that help?

          • RIP illa

Nope…Not if self-tacklin is still the number 1 and Coop is still number 2

          • LookinAtMyGucci

I don’t know. Guy has like 6 or 7 touchdowns of 80+ yards. That’s impressive. And notable for comparison of dynamic players being released who couldn’t fetch anything in trade.

          • RIP illa

Are we seriously having this discussion??? I was just being a smart ass with that question man???

            Please no more 30+ RBs

          • LookinAtMyGucci

He’s like 27 or 28. And I’m only about 25% serious. But, yes, we were seriously having it….. Just gonna throw it out there. I’d love a formation with McCoy and CJ in backfield, with Sproles in slot, Ertz in line and Maclin out wide. Who do you key on?

          • RIP illa

Ugh…Would make my madden team great ;-)
And he’s 28 and will be 29 1st month of the season.
I can’t see CJ, Shady, and Sproles in the same backfield, in a “run 1st offense.” Someone, or two, would be way under utilized and turn into the new James Casey.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

            Who’s James Casey?

          • RIP illa

            Exactly

          • oreofestar

I was not even thinking about my Madden offense damn I am gonna miss Desean

          • RIP illa

            Yes you are my friend.

          • oreofestar

I mean to be honest no point updating my roster before the draft enjoy Desean

          • Andy124

            Athletic fullback.

          • Andy124

Seriously, don’t we all think he could really produce if he had some serious playing time, he’s just stuck behind better guys?

          • OldDocRoss

I think Kelly sees it that way. Didn’t we just pay him decent $s when we could’ve cut him cheaply?

I honestly think they were surprised Ertz fell to them but loved him (Ertz) too much to pass on him, and that meant Casey got less snaps. He still did a real nice job blocking IMO towards the end of the year, even if he never showed up on the box score.

          • Andy124

He really did. Still, excited to see what Ertz does in year 2.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

Probably. You don’t stuble into 100+ catch seasons at any level because you’re a bum.

  • Neanderthal

Desean to Cheifs sounds like agent creation. Why would Andy want to deal with issues and Desean likes to go deep. Alex Smith is the qb. Nufced

    • OldDocRoss

Rewind two weeks and this whole thing was media creation.

Rewind one week and it was agent creation.

Andy seems to have a genuine bond with DeSean, the guy can be a threat from out wide, in the slot or in the backfield and even if he was only a deep threat he’d still be great for stretching defences and opening up short passes and the running game.

      • LookinAtMyGucci

Yeah but everyone knows Checkdown Smith doesn’t throw anything deep.

        • OldDocRoss

Eh, I think Smith gets less love than he deserves. Not that he’s awesome or anything, but he seems to attract great vitriol for being consistent and efficient while much worse QBs get more favourable press.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

            Yeah, I was kind of kidding. He’s a poor man’s Foles :)

          • OldDocRoss

            Rich man’s Dilfer!

          • LookinAtMyGucci

Just means Nick’s getting us a ring.

          • OldDocRoss

            Foles > Smith > Dilfer

            => Foles is >= 3 rings.

            Because math!

          • LookinAtMyGucci

Are you sure that’s not voodoo? I mean, if that’s what it takes I’m all in.

          • OldDocRoss

Voodoo, math. Tomato, tomato (say the second one different).

It took a few years, but all them pins in the Romo doll’s back are finally paying off, so time to embrace the ‘old age’ medicines I say.

          • Andy124

I’m loving this whole string of comments here.

          • OldDocRoss

Basically, what we’ve learned here is that Alex Smith is being held down by The Man (or The Rock, or Evan Mathis), Nick Foles is the greatest human being in history and Foles + Voodoo = SUPERBOWLS!

DeSean hates voodoo (because he’s a terrible racist) and thusly had to be cut.

Andy Reid likes racists (drafted Coop and everything) and thus wants to reunite with DeSean.

            Simple!

          • Andy124

You missed the memo. They’re called SUPERFOLES now.

          • OldDocRoss

This is the simplest and greatest thing since the Nick Foles League and I’m shamed for not knowing it.

          • Andy124

I own the copyright on both of those. I brag because I’m proud. :)

          • LookinAtMyGucci

I own “No PickNick” and “Foles Gold”. Be proud, brother.

          • Andy124

WTF doesn’t this have like 20 upvotes?

          • Andy124

I think it’s because he started off very poorly, especially for a #1 overall, and people still hold that against him and it colors their eval of his current performance.

          • OldDocRoss

Yeah, I know. I just like Smith more than the next guy and for some reason feel an irrational compulsion to defend him.

It’s like my knee jerk reaction to insta-hate on anything positive said about Mark Sanchez. Except, the opposite of that.

          • Andy124

That’s how I am, always have been, with Foles… and Andy Harmon.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

            I prefer Andy’s sister, Angie.

      • RIP illa

Andy seems to genuinely love himself some Desean. But last time I checked, KC (and the Midwest in general) had major gang problems. Not saying much, when I say that, but wondering if a team considers that at all.

      • Neanderthal

You might be right. Just doesn’t make sense to my KISS mind

      • Andy124

        Do not.

      • Kev_H

DeSean played a big role in the disappointing seasons that got Reid fired. Andy isn’t entrenched in KC. The playoff debacle and adding Jackson would immediately put him on the hot seat. If the Chiefs had a losing year he’d be canned. Reid is ultimately an NFL survivor. He won’t risk it.

  • RIP illa

Now if Chris Culliver doesn’t get released…I’m gonna flip the F out!!!!

  • oreofestar

Damn just watching a little NFL Network and apparently 1. The NFC East is going to be atough division and 2. Without Desean we suck

    • Bleedgreen

Football is the ultimate team sport. Desean wasn’t going to make or break the success of this team. It takes your coaching staff, 22 guys, plus your special teams to win football games and win championships.

I’m under the belief that the Eagles have a coach who knows how to score points. Yes, we’ll miss Desean’s gamebreaking speed, but it’s something that can be made up with good playcalling and great QB play. As long as Foles takes the next step to being a franchise QB, this won’t hurt the Eagles. It sucks they couldn’t get any compensation for such a unique talent, but it is what is. I said this on the comment board for IgglesBlitz last night, a great QB can make mediocre WR’s look good (see Riley Cooper) and a good WR look great (see Eric Decker). The Eagles still have Maclin (assuming he stays healthy), Shady, Sproles, Ertz, Celek, Cooper and probably a rookie WR. Plus, this whole team has a year under their belt in Chip’s offense, so I expect improvement.

Also, look at all of the Oregon teams Chip had. None of his players have had success in the NFL. He knows how to coach up talent. I don’t think it’s time to panic. Chip wants players who are pure football players, and Desean wasn’t that. He’s an exceptional talent, but football isn’t his life. Maybe if he wasn’t making $10.5M they would have kept him but if he’s going to be the face of your franchise, he better be all in and I don’t think he ever was

      • Andy124

3rd paragraph. 2nd sentence. Hyperbole. But other than that, good post imo.

        • Bleedgreen

Maybe a little exaggerated; I don’t mean to say none, but for how explosive his offenses were at Oregon, you would think it would have produced more NFL talent but I just haven’st seen in translate in the NFL

          • Andy124

Yeah. Several good defenders though, and Kyle Long was a beast last year. Doesn’t dispute your overall post in the least of course.

      • oreofestar

Oh I do not agree with it I was laughing it off that they 1. say we can not win our divsion and 2. supposedly Desean was our offense

  • oreofestar

Ebron? Lee? Cooks? ODB? Evans? who are we gonna use to replace him

    • OldDocRoss

Mostly Maclin + Sproles + Ertz in the short term.

      Long term, rookie TBC.

      • oreofestar

Well Yeah I mean long term I do not expect any rookie to come in and have 1000 yards but maybe 750-1000 and then grow into something bigger

        • oreofestar

I mean like no wr is going to come in and be a 1300 yard guy but I can see an ODB coming in and getting 54 catches for 792 and 6 TDS or something along with MAC, SPROLES and increased roles for Ertz and others

          • OldDocRoss

Could do. Or ODB could be a Freddie Mitchell level bust. It’s impossible to say for sure. I do feel confident saying that I don’t think Kelly views DeSean as being a 1300 yard pa receiver who needs to be replaced. His vision of the offence is a bunch of guys getting 7-900 yards per season, and if one or two get more than that in a given year, then great.

As much as I hate to see DeSean go, I’m still much more worried about our D.

          • oreofestar

Thew way it looks though best player at 22 will probably be offensive so I would rather you get the offense guy there and then attack defense in the middle round and just go 4 straight D in rounds 2-5

          • LookinAtMyGucci

With Sproles and Maclin back, it’s unlikely he was repeating those numbers IMO. Just can’t see the touches being there.

      • Bukester

What is “TBC”? TBD or maybe TBA (Decided or Announced), but eh

        • OldDocRoss

          To Be Confirmed

    • Andy124

      Replacement by committee.

      • oreofestar

I understand and agree nobody is coming in and getting 1300 yards but who do you think we draft to eventually maybe take over with Mac

        • Andy124

I’m more of a spectator than predictor. I love what I’ve seen of Evans, and I’m EXTREMELY biased in Allen Robinson’s favor, but whoever we get I’ll psyche myself up for.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

I don’t want Moncreif, aka Littlefinger (GOT reference)

          • Andy124

Netflix needs to stream that sht so I can find out what all the hubbub is about. Pretty sure I’d love it.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

They’re all on demand right now. I watched the pilot when it premiered and couldn’t get into it. 3 years later the joke was on me. Great show.

          • Andy124

            I ain’t payin’

          • LookinAtMyGucci

The $10-15 a month HBO costs is worth it. They have most of the best shows on TV consistently. They occasionally show good movies, too!

          • Andy124

Had HBO. Didn’t get money’s worth. GOT will eventually be available. I’m patient.

          • LookinAtMyGucci

            Understood.

          • Jerry Pomroy

HBO is no longer about movies. It’s only about movies from its sister company Universal and pushing its own productions.

          • Jerry Pomroy

Do you watch House of Cards on Netflix? That’s a good show.

          • Andy124

Nope. Did you read House of Suns on a Kindle? That’s a good book.

I have no point (other than it is a good book). I just like the way the sentences parallel each other.

          • Andy124

C’mon people, I expected an outpouring of support for House of Suns, Terminal World and Revelation Space when I brought this up. Bunch of savages I tells ya. :)

          • DharmaBum

House of Cards is ridiculously good. It gotta be in my top 5 of all-time drama series.

          • DEaglesWay

            Couchtuner.eu > Netflix

          • Jerry Pomroy

As it stands now, Netflix will never get GOT. Comcast purchasing Time Warner pretty much locked that up. HBO is owned by Time Warner. Comcast effing owns everything now. HBO, Time Warner, Universal, NBC…all owned by Comcast.

          • Andy124

Interesting. Guess I’m not that patient. I’m sure I’ll find somebody that owns the collection or something like that. I’m very used to being roughly a decade behind the times. No worries.

          • Jerry Pomroy

Worked under DTV umbrella in middle/upper management for 8yrs. So I follow that stuff. But since I was let go and we became a one income household, we dropped satellite & cable for Netflix (streaming & DVD plan) & Hulu Plus. $23/month for those subscriptions and I get all the shows/movies I want, when I want.

          • GEAGLE

If u have decent virus protection on your computer. Then download a free version of Utorrent and you can watch anything you ever want to see, movie, tv show, sporting event, for free….i suck with technology, but its so damn easy that its a shame not to have it

          • Honest_T

FYI Time Warner (TWX) is different from Time Warner Cable (TWC). Comcast is buying the cable business, not the Time Warner media/content properties.

          • Jerry Pomroy

You’re right. I stand corrected. That just removes HBO from under their umbrella. But HBO is still not going to release HBO Go as a standalone due to it’s current agreements with content providers. That’s also why you’ll never see HBO content licensed to stream on Netflix, Hulu, etc. I believe GOT is available for pay per view on Amazon Prime though, but only after each season has concluded.

          • oreofestar

Yeah I love a lot of guys in the draft so I am easy to please there unlike FA lol we would have to really screw up the draft to get me upset

  • William

I think the Eagles just got tired….and this was a way to cut ties, send a message and get people to pay attention to the Atmosphere and character the Eagles are trying to create ….
Jackson comes into the league and is very braggadocios even as a rookie….becomes a star but then holds out for his money and when he does come back, doesn’t appear to go all out …..They finally give him his money, he has a great under a new coach in a system that allows him to do what he can do best and that is be in space but then allegedly he want more money while other guys like Maclin who didn’t hold out, blew out his knee and took a one year deal because he wanted to be here. Riley coopers stays too and I just think they were like look…” He is a burner but he is small, not a Redzone threat, disappears if not in space, we are paying him number 1 money and he has potential character or associations issues. For that money we can we can pick up a free agent or try to trade for a bigger guys and possible get a guy and the draft who we don’t have to look over our shoulder about . I think it makes sense

….my problem is , why did they let this leak out and and why couldn’t they try to save his integrity…why cut him and let it be rumored it was a character or association issue. They could of waited until next month and made a trade, during the draft got at least something, and let the kid save face.

  • BobA

Remind me to never be in a foxhole with Jason Kelce.

    • TimX

Kelce is sticking with his team.

      DeSean is now the enemy.

    • Richard Colton

says a guy who’s undoubtedly never seen one. Did you say the same thing about the Pats players who distanced themselves from AH when that story was just speculation?

  • JReamer

I will be livid if he signs with the Deadskins. I seriously do not want to face him twice a year. Just heard he’s going to meet them on Monday.
