More Honors For McCoy, Mathis, Peters

Evan Mathis may not have been voted into the Pro Bowl, but he is getting plenty of recognition elsewhere this offseason. The standout guard was named first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press earlier this month. On Monday, he was selected to the Pro Football Writers of America All-NFL team.

LeSean McCoy was also named to the All-NFL team, and Jason Peters made the All-NFC team.

While McCoy and Peters were both tabbed to represent the Eagles in the Pro Bowl (Peters has since opted out), the 32-year-old Mathis was named a second alternate along with DeSean Jackson. (Nick Foles, a first alternate, will be playing in Hawaii). Mathis has been cleaning up otherwise. He recently was given the Bruce Matthews Award by Pro Football Focus, which goes to the top offensive lineman in the league.

  • macadood

too bad we have no defense or special teamers on either all-team…

    • Maggie

Like I said on another post, Golden Tate. FA, WR, PR.

      • Bdawkbdawk

He had pretty poor production this year as an ostensible WR1/2. Do you think this is due to his usage?

        • GEAGLE

Rather have Coop. Probably ends up being Cheaper then “aluminum” Tate

          • macadood

yea tate is no true #1, though he could be useful for sure

          • GEAGLE

Tate instead of coop seems like change for the sake of change. if he is better then Coop, it’s not by enough to make me want to screw with important continuity an chemistry…

    • Richard Colton

      next year

  • Andy

Didn’t Deion Sanders pick the Pro Bowl teams? That’s enough explanation for me.

    • Maggie

No, the “fans” picked the players, Sanders and Rice pick their teams from those players.

    • GEAGLE

Deion says he is playing in the probowl

      • Richard Colton

he makes everything he does about himself. I could make an all-time most loathed athlete team and never leave Texas.

        • GEAGLE

I hope he plays against FOles, and Nick drops Bombs all day on the guy Dieon is defending….such a CLOWN..fake ass Herm Edwards wannabe

  • theycallmerob

There’s a punter out there better than donnie football?

    • macadood

hekker did have a monster season and deserves it. and he’s the original Johnny Football by that standard then!

but donnie was right in his footsteps.

      • Matt

Hekker plays in a dome at least 8x a year… not a fair evaluation vs kicking in outdoors, in philly. Donnie Football all the way

    • Andy124

      Nope.

    • EaglefaninAZ

      That was my first thought.

      • GEAGLE

I haven’t watched punting too closely, but I can’t even point to a better year then what Donnie did this year…is it just me, or was Boykin downing balls inside the 10 every time Donnie punted? When Roc wasn’t kicking them out of the ENDZONE that is

  • Will

No one on our Defense made the list…Mmmm what a shocker…

  • GEAGLE

LOL Sbnation must be reading my posts..their new mock draft has Anthony Barr falling to #22 where he becomes and Eagle

    • Will

      Wishful thinking at best….

      • GEAGLE

        Not neccessarily…

For what it’s worth they had Kony and Beasly in the top 10

        • Will

Where was Van Noy? Mack…. Khali…???

          • GEAGLE

Van Noy fell out of round 1 and they had Khalil going #3 to Jax

For those down on Cox, you can’t tell me you would draft Khalil Mack ahead of Cox, and I been touting Mack as long as anyone. I can buy hath at you would draft Clowney if Cox just finished his senior year, but not Mack

          • Will

I think Chip goes WR #22 anyways….Defense gets ignored they resign Allen take a Safety rd 5 …OLB rds 3 or 4…

          • GEAGLE

Kelvin Benjamin or Mike Evans would be the only players I could see Chip drafting instead of Barr if he is on the board..they had bEnjamin and Van Noy falling out of round 1

          • Will

Any real Chance Kelvin Benjamin falls to #22? 6’5″ 240 with 4.44 speed…that be nice to have ….

          • GEAGLE

Right now, yeah….it’s also possible he has a crazy combine and shoots into the top 15. My guess is he is more likely to go top 15 then fall into round 2…but, it’s too early to tell. Every year their are WRs we salivate over, then you get to the combine and find out they aren’t as fast as we thought..

The draft process is so unpredictable..these are all young kids who are still growing, alot of it has to do with who is putting in the most work busting their butt to improve after the college season ends….Benjamin is Raw as hell, so the combine will be crucial. Will he be Alshon Jeffries or Riley Cooper? Gotta see he he runs…

          • Will

Right now the knock on Kelvin B. is inconsistent pass catcher…I say draft him and break out the stick’em…lol…that’s a big body red zone target that can block with TE size…

          • GEAGLE

This time last year Ertz didn’t exactly have Jimmy Jam Graham hands…then Ertz went on to make some incredible catches and be pretty reliable..Celeks hands weren’t that great last year either..actually they were so bad, I wrongly suggested cutting him about 39 times…silly me

My draft plan for round 1 is simple..get a SUPREME ATHLETE at his position. Draft that raw explosive Talent that just doesn’t grow on Trees…when your coaches can develop young talent, you are better off getting a supreme athlete and let your coaches turn him into a top football player…

I don’t care so much about the position, as I do about having a ceiling of a top player at his position…instant gratification is foolish..draft the best athlete who your coaches can turn into a special football player..I can be down with this strategy since I know our coach won’t even put kids on their draft board unless their commitment to football excellence is up to par..

            Special talent such as:
OLB Anthony Barr who bring the explosiveness of Von Miller, let coach McGovern worry about improving his arsenal of moves..and let Cole play on running downs while the mad scientist Hulls worries about getting Barr strong enough

Shede Hagemen, 6’7 305lb DT so agile that he was playing TE a few years ago
            ,.
Mike Evans a beast of a WR playing in body of a college OLB

Just get the type of raw ability that is hard to find outside of round 1, the type of talent you have to pay $50 million to in FA if developed properly

          • Richard Colton

don’t think I’ve ever agreed with one of your posts more than this one.

          • GEAGLE

Thanks mate..we all know our immediate needs, we all want to take that next step next year, and while I Know our coaches and players feel the same, we have older players who are going to have to be replaced in two or 3 years, and we have to get back to where we are thinking years ahead. When we are ready to move on from Our veterans we need their replacement to be drafted, groomed and ready to take over without missing a beat
            ,..
And if we are being honest, we don’t have many positions where our depth is suitable so there really aren’t too many positions that would be redundant. Obviously we won’t draft a downhill running back in round 1, and we are ok at TE, but even those two positions,I wouldn’t put it past Chip bucking NFL tradition and carrying more RBs and TEs then we would assume

          • Richard Colton

Nope. Obviously everyone wants to pick 32nd in February, and top five by the time April (now May) rolls around. Can’t dictate the draft from #22 like you can from #4. As long as you’re willing to be flexible – we can get a solid player/possible star. Based on what I’ve seen since the new regieme took over in 2012, Im hopeful.

What Im not looking forward to are the following posts for the next four months: “Eagles need to draft best available (insert desired position – OLB, WR, S, CB) at 22 and we’re good. Superbowl.” Because good teams don’t do that.

          • GEAGLE

We’ll said…you can talk about the daft with a degree of certainty when you are picking 4, but it’s impossible to know who will be on the board at 22. heck, we drafted 4 last year and we still couldn’t get the guy we wanted. gotta be flexible, gotta trust your board…
            ..
Which is why I think it would be a major mistake to sign more Chung/Kenny Phillip types safeties…we can’t hide that weakness, unless we want to go reaching for safeties in the draft we have to sign a safety who we can comfortably start for a year or two, if not we will miss out on good players because we had no choice but to draft a safety

          • Richard Colton

Draft for talent; sign free agents for need

          • Richard Colton

wow. way too many variables to predict that. so this is your wish list…what do they take in round two?

    • Will

Saw one Barr went #7 to Tampa Bay…

      • GEAGLE

He very well could go top 10, but if he falls out of the top ten, then he is falling out the of the top 15…remember where you heard it first :)

    • cliff henny

well, that works! remember shareef floyd was getting a few mentions as top 5–10, even getting picked as Eagle. he ended up in 20′s. i dont like to make up mock drafts with 1. barr 2. landry 3. joyner, since that’s multiple guys sliding, but crazier things have happened.

      • Richard Colton

Combine and Senior Bowl still to come, draft might as well be next decade. This time last year, Mantai Teo was still a 1st rounder, Fisher was a mid 1st and Lane a 2nd rounder. Hell, we may end up with Barr at #22 and Mike Evans in round 2.

        • cliff henny

          BOING!!!!

          • Richard Colton

Figured that would get you going. hahaha

        • GEAGLE

Barr at 22, Benjamin in round 2, one of the Deon/Dion safeties or Pryor falling to round 3 is my wet dream..a Benny Logan clone in round 4, Dat and a CB in round 5, and the next Evan Mathis I’m round 7….too much? Lol

          • Richard Colton

hahaha. You’re leaving out “UDWD*” Colt Lyerla
            *undrafted wet dream

          • GEAGLE

Damn right he is!!! Wouldn’t mind pairing Ertz with a friggin gritty Psycho…if I’m Chip, I sign Lyeria and force him to live with me his entire rookie year lol

        • GEAGLE

Who are the fellow combine junkies who will take off work and watch every drill? Lol

      • GEAGLE

This time last year, Ziggy Ansah and Sharrif basically swapped places….Ziggy moved all the way into the top 5, Reef feel to the 20′s were Ziggy was slated to go this time last year

  • GEAGLE

Our Oline handled both all pro DTs, Gerald McCoy was non exsistent, and Suh looked how most bully’s look when you punch them in the mouth

    • Bdawkbdawk

      Angrier?

      • Will

LMAO…no good footing in the snow we got lucky with the weather…

  • EaglefaninAZ

If someone were to offer me any Eagles jersey I wanted, I’d take a Mathis model.

  • GEAGLE

    We haven’t discussed trades yet..

Howie practically pioneered trading players who won’t make your roster to other teams for their roster cast offs…we got Gaethers that way..

Could we see Damaris flipped to KC for one of NTHEIR cast offs?

if Chip has McCluster or DAT on his mind, could Polk or Bryce be traded?
    ..
    Would Avant interest Andy?

Wonder what Andy thinks of Matt Barkley. No doubt in my minds that team with ok veterans like Carson Palmer and Alex smith will draft and start grooming their eventual replacement…wonder what good OL Andy thinks of barkley
    ..
If we wanted to go young at TE, I’m sure Andy would give up a lil somethin somethin for Celek especially after the year he has

    • Token

If Bryce could still net you absolutely anything, you trade him. Just not sure theres a market anymore. Im up for keeping Polk at #3. But they will need a more capable #2 RB that fits well in this system.

      • GEAGLE

I disagree..I think there is a 5th, possibly a 4th to be had for a young back like Bryce, dude would he productive in a run game like the steelers or packers

        • Token

          I hope so.

          But I doubt it

Ive never seen anything special about Bryce, like im sure you have. Big guy. Good speed for his size. But not a natural runner. His balance isnt good. Feet arent good. Not a very good receiver out of the backfield.

          • Richard Colton

somebody wants to give me a 4th for Bryce, I’ll drive him to the airport.

          • GEAGLE

According to Mosher ATleast…then again, the idiot suggested not keeping Barbre because we have tobin and Dennis

I doubt you thought bryce sucked last year
