Out-of-the-Box Fitness Classes to Get You Moving

Let’s be honest. After a long day at work, the last thing you probably want to do is work out. This is probably closer to your nightly routine: food, couch, TV, bed. Not that we’re judging—exercise doesn’t tend to be high on our to-do list at the end of the day, either.

It’s time to put down the remote once and for all, and invest your time in a new hobby that doubles as a workout. Here are five out-of-the-box fitness class ideas that might appeal to the 5 percent of energy you have left at the end of the day. It’s time to get moving!

Gladiator Athletics
Yup, it’s as awesome as it sounds. Train with gladiator weapons, do some calisthenics and enjoy the workout of the era. No need to fly to Rome and back to get your hands on a set of weapons—safe ones are provided on site.

When: Sundays starting September 9th at 1:00 p.m.

Circus Training
Remember when you were little and gazed in amazement at circus performers, wishing you could be one of them? Now you can have your chance at glory. The Philadelphia School of Circus Arts offers all-levels training; start with a beginner’s trapeze course and work your way up to an intermediate acrobatics class.

When: Several classes are offered every day

Cowgirl Class
Yeehaw! Yeah, we said it. One cowgirl class at Lithe and you’ll be hooked. Get seriously toned by swirling, twirling and spinning around with the help of Lithe’s unique “lasso” firming hoop. Be ready to show off your moves if you ever happen to head South.

Trampoline
Bounce your way into tip-top shape with the Urban Rebounder class at Weston Fitness. Work on your core and build upper body strength with this cardio choreographed routine performed on the trampoline.

Indoor Rock Climbing
Go Vertical is the mother of all rock-climbing gyms. With 250 climbing routes up at all times, you can be adventurous and put your strength and endurance to the test. The climbing walls are up to 50 feet high, but not to worry—a harness and shock absorbing foam floors are there to protect you.

When: The gym is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Where: Go Vertical Indoor Rock Gym, 950 N Penn Street.

Cost: $65 a month for unlimited use. A day pass ranges from $13 to $18 depending on age and time of day.
