We Say "I Do"
Sappho Fulton and Shayna SheNess Israel have put together this evening for same-sex couples to gather and talk about life and love, to share what works for them in an age when we're afforded the right to actually make it legal. The purpose is to open up dialogue about same-sex relationships, and how to navigate through the ups and downs. As the invite suggests, "we are able to marry now; let's keep it tight." Wednesday, October 15th, 3:30 p.m.-9 p.m., $7, The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut Street.
QOTA at Noir
This month East Passyunk Avenue's monthly queer happy hour, QOTA, will be held at Noir, where guests can sip on $4 wines and well drinks, and score half-off appetizers as they meet and greet with others in the neighborhood and beyond. Wednesday, October 15th, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., free, Noir, 1909 East Passyunk Avenue.
Reb*el
Mazzoni Center's The Real Impact Project (TRIP) is presenting this celebration of modern black gay art and culture. The free event—organized by TRIP's Chris Kyle and Vernon Brown—aims to "present a diverse and dynamic lineup of free-thinkers, artists, and activists for an uplifting and engaging night out, while promoting discussion and raising awareness about sexual health amongst gay men and trans-identified people of color."
The evening will feature performances by Icon Ebony-Fierce, poet Marquise, hip-hop-meets-minimalism recording artist Ganou, and Lyfe dance troupe, among others. Mazzoni's Mobile Testing Unit will be parked outside the performance venue offering free HIV-testing throughout the night. Definitely one of the week's most sure-bet gay things to do. Wednesday, October 15th, TK, free, MilkBoy Philly, 1100 Chestnut Street.
Dumpsta Players Present Miller, She Wrote
For their next production, the Dumpsta Players are spoofing Murder, She Wrote, bringing back their Lansbury-inspired detective to investigate a string of gay bathhouse deaths. Sounds familiar ... Proceeds from the door will benefit Hollaback Philly, a band of local activists working to end street harassment. That's awfully timely, too. Way to keep up with the news, Dumpsta Players. Wednesday, October 15th, 10 p.m. (doors), 11 p.m. (show), $1.99, Bob and Barbara's, 1509 South Street.
#VentureVariety: October Edition
Over at Venture Inn, bartender Billy Cavallo will host his monthly variety hour. Taking the stage this week? Emily Valentine, Jason Ferraro, Ariel Versace, and comedian Chanel Ali. As with any Cavallo event, Stoli specials and selfies will abound. Wednesday, October 15th, 11 p.m., Venture Inn, 255 South Camac Street.
Weekly To-Dos
As usual, Josh Schonewolf is presenting things all over the Gayborhood this week. First up is Burlesque Battle Royale. This week the theme is "Nerdlesque," where I'm guessing contestants will try to come up with inventive ways to wear pocket protectors. Tuesday, October 14th, 9 p.m. (doors) 10 p.m. (show), $8, Tabu Lounge and Sports Bar, 200 South 12th Street.
On Wednesday night Schonewolf's Mr. Everything contest continues in its search to find Philly's No. 1 male-identified performer. As always, there's a theme, and this week's is "Genderfuck." Beards and boobies! Wednesday, October 15th, 10 p.m., Tabu Lounge and Sports Bar.
Tavern On Camac continues its weekly American Horror Story: Freak Show viewing party. What did you think about last week's premiere? Those claw hands! Will Bette and Dot move in to steal Elsa's thunder? Will Kathy Bates' bearded lady shave those whiskers? Watch as the story continues to unfold this Wednesday night. Wednesday, October 15th, 10 p.m. (showtime), free, Tavern On Camac, 243 South Camac Street.
Mimi Imfurst's Drag Wars Season 5 is in full swing. This week the ladies will compete in the "Sisters Are Doing it For Themselves" challenge, taking on some of pop culture's best female pairings. Think Sex and The City, Golden Girls and Charlie's Angels. Thursday, October 16th, 10 p.m. (doors), 11 p.m. (show), $7, Voyeur Nightclub, 1221 Saint James Street.
