Pennsylvania Is Running Out of Doctors or Something

The Hospital and Healthcare Association of Pennsylvania (a healthcare lobbying group) has cited a new survey and called for legislators to address a looming shortage of doctors in the Keystone State. Basically, they’re saying that it’s too easy to sue doctors in Pennsylvania, so they’re all bailing after medical school. The survey—by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Legal Reform—indicates that Pennsylvania is 40th in the nation in fairness of its civil litigation climate. Philly was ranked as the fifth-most hostile business environment. Only 20 percent of physicians who complete residencies in PA stay and practice here. You’ll be sorry you scared all the doctors away when the bird flu, swine flu, Bubonic plague strikes again. [The Morning Call]
