Mekia Elizabeth is fostering community in Germantown, whether it’s transforming an empty parish building into an after-school clubhouse for teens, starting a vegetable garden in a derelict plot, or sacrificing her own porch to open St. Harmony Café, a coffee shop staffed by neighborhood kids. A civic superhero, Elizabeth is the rightful winner of The Philadelphia Citizen’s 2026 Block Captain of the Year.
