Shooting at Wilmington Courthouse Kills 3

68-year-old gunman Thomas Matusiewicz killed three people, including himself, at the New Castle County courthouse in Wilmington, Delaware around 8 a.m. this morning. Two members of the Delaware Capitol Police were also shot, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. The man apparently walked in the courthouse, drew his pistol, and began shooting. One of the two victims was the man’s daughter-in-law, who had become estranged from her husband.* The shootings occur just hours before Delaware native Joe Biden was scheduled to appear at Girard College for a panel on gun violence. *Correction: This post originally stated that the gunman was the victim’s ex-husband, not her father-in-law.
