This Year, You’ll be Eating Well on the Riverfront

Franklin Fountain, Shane Confectionery, Federal Donuts, and the return of Chifa will provide food on the riverfront.

spruce-street-harbor-park-barges-matt-stanley-940Spruce Street Harbor Park Presented by Univest/Valley Green Bank and Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest have announced their food partners and the ante has been upped. Franklin Fountain, Shane Confectionery, Federal Donuts, and the revival of Chifa will all go a long way towards making 2015 a year to head to the Delaware River.

The boardwalk at the Spruce Street Harbor Park will be home of PortFedNuts. This branch of Cook N Solo’s Federal Donuts will be serving the Federal Donuts Fried Chicken Sandwich plus cold brewed iced coffee, and a bag-O-donuts, six miniature cinnamon sugar donuts.

Old City’s Franklin Fountain and Shane Confectionery will be setting up riverfront outposts. The Harbor Park will house the S.S. Franklin Fountain, a shipping container made up to resemble a 1930s-40s naval ship. The S.S. Franklin will feature The Mighty Warship, a waffle boat, two scoops of ice cream, two toppings, whipped cream and of course a cherry on top. Other goodies will include The Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich, and a variety of other ice creams and cones.

Over at the Lodge at the RiverRink, a vintage-carnival themed Shane Confectionery will be offering popcorn and cotton candy made on site as well as a variety of chocolates, salt water taffy and fudge. Also at the outdoor summer roller skating rink will be a period-themed photo booth, complete with vintage-inspired dress-up clothes and props.

The Garces Group will return to the Harbor Park and Summerfest with four options. The Village Burger will be back this season, this year being offered at the Lodge at the RiverRink. There will also be rotating burger specials, veggie burgers and fries. The revival of Chifa, Jose Garces’s Peruvian Chinese concept. Expect Chifa’s ever popular pork belly bao buns, chicken wings with spicy garlic-ginger sauce, and glazed pork ribs. On the boardwalk, Garces Group will be grilling up Chicago-style hot dogs, bacon knockwursts and supplementing those mainstays with special sausages, sauerkraut and lager fondue-topped fries. On weekends, the Distrito Taco Truck will be on location, serving Mexican street tacos.

Also look for Daniel Rivera’s Frozen Delights concession for summer staples like soft ice cream funnel cake and more.

As for drinking on the river. Spruce Street Harbor Park will have 15 taps of local beers, plus, wine and summer cocktails around the Harbor Park and at the Lodge.
