Eagles Could Bring Gilyard Back

As we mentioned earlier, the Eagles could be looking to make a roster move at wide receiver in the next day or two.

Jeremy Maclin suffered a hip injury, and his status for Sunday’s home opener against the Ravens is unknown. Jason Avant suffered a wrist contusion. And Andy Reid said Riley Cooper won’t be back as he continues to rehab a fractured collarbone.

Apparently, one guy Howie Roseman and Andy Reid are looking at is Mardy Gilyard. Gilyard spent training camp with the Eagles, but was eventually cut. He had nine catches for 151 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the preseason. Earlier today, Gilyard Tweeted:

I’m back in Philly aye!!!! Time to do work!!!!! #Turnup!!!!

The Eagles have not yet announced a roster move. It’s tough to guess on who they’d cut if they signed Gilyard or another wide receiver. If I had to guess, I’d probably go with offensive lineman Nate Menkin, whom the team signed off waivers from the Texans. Ordinarily, I’d say Dallas Reynolds could be an option, but that would leave the Eagles with no backup center.

Another option would be running back. Bryce Brown is safe, but what about Chris Polk? Or even Dion Lewis? I think the Eagles would like to hold onto them too, but you never know.

We could find out Tuesday if the team makes a move.
