Catching Up With Plax, Jamaal Jackson

After months of lobbying (some would call it begging), Plaxico Burress has found a team that is interested in his services.

The veteran wide receiver is working out for the New England Patriots, a league source tells ESPN’s Adam Schefter. It’s Burress’ first workout for a team this offseason.

Burress turns 35 this week, and clearly, teams don’t see much value in bringing him in. But he still had 45 catches for 612 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Seven of those scores were in the red zone.

ESPNBoston’s Mike Reiss writes that he wouldn’t be shocked if the Patriots signed Burress.

JACKSON IN DALLAS?

The Cowboys are banged-up at center and have decided to take a look at former Eagle Jamaal Jackson, two sources tell the Fort Worth Star Telegram.

According to the report, if Jackson is in good shape, he’ll be signed and will start practicing with the team on Wednesday.

Jackson spent part of the spring with the Giants, but then decided that wasn’t a good fit for him. Reports varied about whether he was retiring, but Jackson maintained that he’d give it another go if he found the right situation.

Jackson started 72 games for the Eagles from 2005 to 2010. Last summer, Howard Mudd decided to go with rookie Jason Kelce, and Jackson only played 17 snaps all season, although I thought he looked good in the preseason.

The Eagles, of course, don’t have much of a backup plan at center this year. Dallas Reynolds is currently taking reps with the second team, although he may not make the roster. Julian Vandervelde is learning the position as well.

Jackson turned 32 in May.

UPDATE: A source tells Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com that Jackson was in poor shape for his workout and the Cowboys will pass on signing him.
