Maclin Leaves Practice; Weeden Named Starter

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy MaclinJeremy Maclin left Monday afternoon’s practice early with cramps, according to the Eagles. Fellow wide receiver Jamel Hamler exited with a hamstring injury, but otherwise it was a quiet day on the injury front.

We did learn that Brent Celek (knee), Trent Cole ( shoulder) and Nate Allen (hamstring) are not all the way back. Cole and Celek both took part in individual drills, but all three ended up on the side with the rest of the rehabbing players doing some conditioning work.

With Marty Mornhinweg at the helm in the absence of a grieving Andy Reid, the Eagles had a padded practice that featured a little thumping but no hard hitting. It was the closest thing to normal that we’ve experienced since Sunday morning.

* The Eagles officially know which quarterback they’ll be facing in their opener. The Browns announced that rookie Brandon Weeden will get the nod. According to Colt McCoy, it was never much of a fair fight.

I have not taken any snaps with the first group,” said McCoy. “I thought coming in it would be a competition.”

Guess not.

Colt can look forward to next year, when Joe Banner decides that Weeden is too old.
