Cullen Jenkins Leaves Practice With Hamstring Injury

And the entire starting defensive line is now hurt…

Cullen Jenkins left practice about midway through with a hamstring injury. The veteran defensive tackle is scheduled to have an MRI on Wednesday night.  He spent some time in the trainers tent earlier in the session and returned to the sidelines, but did not participate in 11-on-11’s and went in on the cart a short time after.

The entire first unit is banged up. Trent Cole is dealing with an A.C. strain, Jason Babin has a calf strain, Mike Patterson has not been cleared by doctors following offseason brain surgery, and now this. Fortunately for the Eagles it’s early and the bug has come at a unit of strength.

“It’s a battle of attrition and things like this happen during camp,” said Derek Landri, who vaulted into a starting defensive tackle spot once the Patterson news came down. “You take precautions, get those guys out and get them healthy. We know what type of players they are. Babin, Trent, best in the NFL. Cullen the best damn pass rusher in the NFL. Get ‘em healthy, get ‘em back out here, they know how to play ball.”

In other injury news, Jeremy Maclin said he jammed his finger a little but is fine, and defensive lineman Monte Taylor left practice with a concussion right before Jenkins headed inside.

There’s no need to panic here. They would probably play with these injuries during the season. Stay rested for the season, guys. Don’t hurt yourselves more.

Minor injuries are a good thing. It keeps the players out of practice so they don’t tear an ACL or Achilles.
