Philadelphia Magazine’s Jumpstart Challenge 2010

See which one of our four contestants lost the most body fat throughout our eight-week challenge (and scored some super-cool prizes!)

Weeks 1-2

Jim’s avoiding soda and hitting Spin class; Devon started off with a bang but is sidelined with a cold; Deidre’s making the gym despite jury duty; and Jessica’s planning a Saturday ski trip after a week of thigh-killing squats. See how our four are fairing and follow their routines at home.

Our first-ever Philly Mag Fitness Contest kicked off on January 25th, and ever since then our four contestants have been working hard to change their bodies, better their lives, and, let’s be honest, win some cool prizes. Meet their Sweat Fitness trainers, read about their fitness programs and check out their daily diaries below. In the next edition of Healthy Life (sign up here, it’s free!), we’ll share their updated workouts and nutrition plans. In the meantime: root them on and tell us how you’re doing following along at home!

Jim Schindler, Conshohocken
A 39-year-old store owner/self-proclaimed fast-food junkie. “The only thing I like better than bacon is cheese-covered bacon.” Now he’s hitting Spin class and avoiding soda. SEE JIM’S FITNESS PLAN AND DAILY DIARY.

Devon Montgomery-Bender, Philadelphia
A 25-year-old just-married caterer who wants to begin the greatest adventure of her life feeling good and looking great. “I don’t feel beautiful because I know I’m not healthy. I want to start my married life as healthy, beautiful woman." She started out hard, but has been sidelined by a cold. SEE DEVON’S FITNESS PLAN AND DAILY DIARY.

Deidre McAllister, Philadelphia

A soon-to-be-40 working mom who wants to drop pounds so she can keep up with her teenage daughter. “I want to keep up when walking and for her to understand the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.” Not even jury duty is keeping her away from the gym. SEE DEIDRE’S FITNESS PLAN AND DAILY DIARY.

Jessica Aiken, King of Prussia

A 24-year-old newly single professional who has three months to fit into her bridesmaid dress. “I’m a bridesmaid in two weddings that are quickly approaching, and I’m hoping to be rocking the form-fitting dress.” Her legs are tired from this week’s workouts but she’s planning a ski trip for the weekend anyway! SEE JESSICA’S FITNESS PLAN AND DAILY DIARY.

Also, I don’t seem to have the energy or enthusiasm to exercise, and I wante to be energetic and fit !!I will be 43 on january 18th, and I would like to get into great shape and lose the last 10 stubborn lbs safely, as well as learn lifestyle changes that I can maintain.
