Fill a 10-ounce glass with ice.
Add 2 ounces good rye whiskey, 1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice, 3/4 ounce simple syrup, and club soda to fill almost to the rim.
Slowly pour ounce red wine (preferably merlot) over the back of a bar spoon, so it floats on top of the club soda.
Garnish with a piece of crystallized ginger.
