About

Salesianum School is a brotherhood of faith and learning committed to educating the minds and hearts of students. It is an all-boys Catholic college-preparatory high school in Wilmington, Delaware, founded in 1903 by the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. With a commitment to academic excellence, it offers a rigorous curriculum, dynamic extracurricular activities, an inclusive community, and an emphasis on character development through service and leadership designed to challenge and inspire its students. The school emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, and intellectual growth, preparing young men for success in higher education and beyond. Our students are called by the timeless words of their patron, St. Francis de Sales, to "Be who you are and be that well."

What is your teaching or educational philosophy?

St. Francis de Sales believed knowledge to be the eighth sacrament. As a school that practices educating the whole person, Salesianum develops students intellectually, physically, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually in a school culture defined by the Salesian tradition. Salesianum is dedicated to doing all it can to help each student develop this love, interest, and understanding. Our approach is centered on the Seven Hallmarks of a Salesian Gentlemen—Humility before God, Gentleness with our neighbor, Patience with self, Compassion for those in need, Tenacity when challenged, Gratitude in the present moment, and Optimism for the future. As our mission statement clearly states, the spiritual health of our community is vital to our educational success. We believe that students reach their potential when high school is not reduced to a checklist of requirements; but rather when a focus is placed on community, relationships, and a sense of belonging.

What is your mission statement?

Salesianum School educates and develops the whole person based on the teaching of Saint Francis de Sales, whose spirituality can be summarized in “Live Jesus.” As an independent Catholic secondary school founded by the Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales in 1903, Salesianum challenges young men through dynamic college preparatory and extracurricular programs to live as Salesian Gentlemen devoted to faith, community, and service.
