What is your teaching or educational philosophy?

Malvern's teaching philosophy is rooted in Augustinian Pedagogy and more than 1600 years old. We believe in community and collaboration vs. cramming and compliance. As a result, faculty construct learning experiences in a manner that values questions over answers, community over the individual, and projects that impact the common good. Faculty are adept at learning and leveraging student strengths and ensuring that most of the curriculum walks into the classroom day to day vs. predetermined pacing guides. Student-centered--which has been trendy of late--has been part of who we are and how we do things since St. Augustine insisted his son call him an 'intellectual friend'. Knowing yourself, knowing others, and knowing the world is the bedrock of an Augustinian education.

What is your mission statement?

An Augustinian School, Catholic and Independent, Living the Augustinian spirit of Veritas, Unitas, and Caritas.

Malvern is dedicated to the pursuit of Truth through academic excellence and the growth of each of its students, so that he is prepared fully for college and for a life of integrity and courageous leadership.

Seeking oneness of mind and heart in the journey toward God, Malvern strives to build a diverse community in which a caring faculty works with parents and students to instill in everyone a personal responsibility for the common good.

Inspired by Christ, the Malvern tradition invites each individual to grow and give in a family distinguished by respect, challenge, service, and exceptional love.
