DVFriends is one of the nation’s best schools for bright students who learn differently. We welcome students in grades 1 to 12 with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, memory and processing difficulties, ADHD, and executive functioning challenges.
Our faculty develops authentic partnerships with students and their families to build trust that fosters accountability and yields achievement. Our research-based, Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory teaching techniques empower students to develop effective tools for their unique learning styles. Applying innovation and deep expertise, DV teachers guide students to embrace the courage to try, establish the confidence to reach farther, and build resilience to succeed in school and beyond.
Our purposeful Quaker culture recognizes and honors the inherent worth of all students while nurturing a community that is diverse and inclusive. This philosophy underlies all we do to help students discover and grow their strengths and celebrate their differences.
DVFriends Literacy Program is accredited by IMSLEC (International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council) and recognized by the IDA (International Dyslexia Association)
Our curriculum is founded upon research and evidence-based best practices in the areas of reading, writing, and executive function support. Our Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction is applied across all divisions, and its multi-modal approach informs instruction across departments.
Our expectations of our students are high and our course content is consistent with a strong college preparatory curriculum–with extra time devoted to building the skills needed for students to become independent learners.
The mission of Delaware Valley Friends School is to prepare students with learning differences for future work and study. The school develops those personal strengths which enable students to succeed in its college preparatory curriculum. Delaware Valley Friends School carries forward the Quaker heritage of compassion and justice. We acknowledge that of God in everyone and nurture the unique personal worth and potential good inherent in each individual.
