Profile
Although the communal table under the colossal gold Buddha is a coveted dining spot in Stephen Starr’s first real blockbuster restaurant, the upstairs bar, where you can watch the whole social theater unfold, is also popular. Without benefit of stage or band, Buddakan buzzes like a nightclub. And the food, Asian fusion dishes constructed as avant-garde architecture — edamame ravioli, duck breast with roast garlic five spice jus — is a show all by itself.

Review
When my husband asked where I wanted to go for a special BD, I thought of Buddakhan.They seated us upstairs where the tables were so close, I could hear every word that was said at the next table. Our waitress service was VERY slow. Our salmon was cold and not thoroughly cooked to our tastes and water glasses were never refilled. Atmosphere upstairs was similar to any pizza parlor in South Phila. That restaurant was not worth the lip gloss I applied to go. Footnote: The Buddakan in AC had much better service, was more accommodating and had a nicer atmosphere than the one in center city Phila. I will NOT go back to the one in Phila.

Review
I went to eat here when I really didn't want to go...I'm a "meat & potatoes" kinda girl and just wasn't enthused about going here. Surprisingly, I was thrilled by everything. The people were very nice, our waiter couldn't have been more helpful with this newbie ordering things I've never heard of. Every single item I ordered was outstanding. And yes, I'm looking forward to going again - soon!!!

I went with a group of twelve to celebrate a special occasion. We started off at the bar with a drink that was pink and had champagne. It was excellent. We were seated at the communal table which was so much fun! We all ordered something different and everyone shared. My favorite was the sea bass. It was incredible! We ate a lot of food and had a few bottles of wine and the bill was not that bad. I would definately go back!
