12 Awesome Honeymoon Destinations for Same-Sex Couples

This past fall, I sat on a panel at a Bouche Productions LGBT wedding event with former G Philly editor Josh Middleton. We chatted about trends, there was a Q&A where the engaged attendees could ask us anything they were wondering about, and there was also a travel component (because hello, honeymoon).

A travel agent sat on the panel with us, and during one of the chats, he informed the crowd both about destinations they might consider for their honeymoon that were quite gay friendly—and also about cities, countries and islands that are not gay friendly, and where they might even feel unsafe. It was a bit surreal, to sit in front of a crowd of blissful, engaged couples and talk about how there are places in this world where they are not welcome with their love and hand-holding, but jarring and upsetting a reality check as it was, it’s still reality, and the information was extremely helpful for the couples to hear.

Jamaica and Grand Cayman are two locations that stuck in my head as places that same-sex couples should avoid—but today, I was pumped to see this great roundup from Travel + Leisure of 12 seriously awesome destinations that would be downright ideal for a same-sex couple’s honeymoon.

The list covers super cool places in the US and Europe and tropical islands, so there’s something in there whether you’re a lay-on-your-face-on-the-beach kinda couple or an explore-till-we-drop kinda couple. Either way, this should give you a pretty awesome jumping-off spot for your honeymoon research so you can plan the trip of the lifetime that every newly married couple deserves.
