On Sunday, April 6, 2008, a sneak preview of the film "Universal Signs" was shown as part of the Philadelphia Film Festival. The film is the first full-length feature written in American Sign Language. Following the screening was a question and answer session with the writer-director, actors and producer, and later, a private reception was held at McCormick & Schmick's in Center City. On Monday, April 28, 2008, the Philadelphia Area Lincoln Mercury Dealer Association and the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition hosted the annual Teal Magnolia’s Fashion Show in the Cherry Hill Crowne Plaza Hotel. On Thursday, April 3, 2008, new owner Andrea Chila hosted a party for the grand re-opening of Pileggi Boutique, formerly owned by style icon Joan Pileggi. Guests enjoyed Bluecoat Berry-tinis and sweets from Le Bec-Fin.
On Wednesday, April 2, 2008, Ann Stookey and Joseph W. Waz, Jr. sponsored a reception for the Benefactors of Settlement Music School's Centennial Gala. The cocktail reception was held at the home of Rhonda and David L. Cohen and recognized, among others, the Centennial Gala Honorary Chairs, Governor Ed Rendell and Mayor Michael Nutter. On Wednesday, April 2, 2008, the Young Advocates for Mural Arts (YAMA) held a benefit concert for the Mural Arts Program. The event, "My Murals, My Music, My Philadelphia," was held at Johnny Brenda's and sponsored by Memphis Flats. Local bands No Outlet, The Old Souls, Jotto and DJ Jon Gill performed.
