Philadelphia Police announced this afternoon the arrest of Manuel Baez, the man they say killed Dr. Howard Baker. The psychiatrist, who had offices in Philadelphia and Wynnewood, was found dead by a housekeeper at the Rodeway Inn on Walnut Street in Center City on Monday morning.

Cops say Baez, who is homeless, killed Baker in the hotel room then left with the doctor’s backpack and wallet. Homicide Capt. James Clark said yesterday he believed the man got away with about $100 and Baker’s credit cards. Baez has been charged with murder.

Baker previously had an associate appointment at the Penn med school, which the school said ended in 2013.

Action News reported yesterday Baez had been picked up on an unrelated parole violation.
