Palm Restaurant Employees Could Have Soft Landing at SugarHouse

The Palm Restaurant is closing for an extensive renovation that will see the Broad Street restaurant close on February 29th and not reopen until late in the fourth quarter at the earliest. With the extended closure, the Palm’s long tenured front-and-back-of-the-house pros were looking at an uncertain future.

Today, SugarHouse Casino and the Palm Restaurant have announced that SugarHouse will offer jobs to all of the Palm’s staff. SugarHouse is completing a $164 million expansion that will add seven food and beverage outlets that will include its own steakhouse, Hugo’s Frog Bar & Chop House.

Terry White, who is perhaps best known in Philadelphia for his time as chef at Union Trust is the executive chef at the soon to open Hugo’s. White has also worked for the Del Frisco chain and even had a stint as executive chef of the Princeton in Avalon, New Jersey.

SugarHouse general manager Wendy Hamilton said “we have enormous respect for The Palm brand, Jim Haney and his team. They have a well-earned reputation for delivering superior, personalized service.” She continued, “they’re also our friends. They’re facing a challenging situation, and we’re actively recruiting. It seemed like an opportunity for a win-win.”

In addition to the soon to open Hugo’s, SugarHouse is building out a 30,000 square foot event center catered by Hugo’s corporate parent, Gibsons Restaurant Group.
