Some of life’s questions are simply too great to ever be answered. Why are we here? What is the meaning of life? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? But this week, two different groups are tackling the age old question: does beer or wine pair better with food?

Alla Spina is hosting two grapes v. grain cage match events this week. The dinner includes a four-course meal along with four wine and four beer pairings chosen by two expert contenders. The price for each night is $65.

The first is tonight  (Tuesday, March 24) at 6:30 pm with hosts David McDuff and Jonny Medlinski. McDuff is a representative of Bowler Wines and Medlinski is Khyber Pass Pub’s beer expert.

The second night is on Wednesday, March 25 at 6:30 pm. The contenders are Jason Malumed, owner of Chalkboard Wine & Spirits, and Brendan Hartranft, owner of Memphis Taproom.

If you’re interested in attending, give Alla Spina a call at 215-600-0017.

Also tonight in the world of Beer v. Wine is the ‘He Said PA Beer, She Said PA Wine‘ competitive dinner at World Café Live co-hosted by the Pennsylvania Winery Association and the Brewers of Pennsylvania. In celebration of Wine Week, Bill Covaleski (president of the Brewers of PA) and Marnie Old (internationally-recognized author and sommelier) will pair a beers and wine (respectively) with a three-course meal prepared by World Café Live chef Joe Deamer. Diners will vote for their favorite via an “applause-meter.” Tickets for the event are $55 each and can be purchased here.
