Pencil this in your calendars, people: This Friday, May 15th, is National Bike to Work Day. And to celebrate, Indego, Philly’s new bike share program, will be holding their first-ever Independence Dollar Day. What’s that you ask? Well, it’s just what it sounds like: On Independence Dollar Days — which, after the first one this Friday, will be held on the first Tuesday of every month — walk-up trips for the bike share will only cost riders $1 for a 30-minute ride, rather than the usual $4. Pretty sweet, right?

The $1 deal only works with rides that are under 30 minutes; for trips lasting longer than that, you’ll be charged the normal $4 for each half hour. If you already have an Indego key, you’ll still have to purchase the trip with your credit card like a walk-up rider to get the deal.

If you won’t be taking part in Indego’s Independence Dollar Day because you’ve already got your own bike, there is still plenty more fun to be had on National Bike to Work Day: First off, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia will be doling out free coffee and snacks at four energizer stations throughout the city (13th and Spruce Street, Penn Museum, Clark Park and Love Park) from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m Friday morning. Free breakfast? Yes, please! Or, if you really want to give National Bike to Work Day your all, you can head to Clark Park between 8 and 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning to join in on the slow group ride to Love Park.

Not a morning person? Not to worry: Later in the day, at 4:30 p.m., BCGP will be throwing a National Bike to Work Day happy hour awards ceremony at Yards Brewing Company. They’ll be giving out awards like Bike-Friendly Business of the Year and the Stu Bykofsky Phrase That Needs to Be Retired and everyone registered for Bike to Work Day will get half-priced draft beers. You can register for Bike to Work Day here.

And psst: If you want to get your bike in tip-top shape before Bike to Work Day kicks off, Keswick Cycle mechanics will be at Hotel Monaco (433 Chestnut Street) throughout the day tomorrow giving free express bike tune-ups to anyone who stops in. You can catch them there from 7 to 9 a.m., 12 to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. All bikers who stop through will be entered to win a free Fuji bike.
