Saloon’s signatures are dark wood wainscoting, stiff drinks, and chophouse cuts of meat. Though the Italian side of the menu can be disappointing, service is excellent, and dinner is mostly pleasurable. Try the calamari in zimino, tender squid rings sautéed with spinach, garlic and white wine, served in a light broth dotted with pieces of tomato; veal Mondelaise, two pounded scallopini, one atop the other, with sage, prosciutto and melted mozzarella in between, surrounded by a marsala sauce brimming with smoky-tasting mushrooms; pumpkin crème brûlée; and limoncello, served in a martini glass filled to the brim.
