In the era of avant-garde cooking, Nineteen embraces back-to the-classics seafood. The lovely domed dining rooms boast the same sweeping views of the Avenue of the Arts as its predecessor restaurants atop the Bellevue. Now, a raw bar is central to the décor and the seafood-centric New American menu.

Review
When I finally managed to locate the correct elevator to take me to Nineteen the doors opened up to an elegentally decorated ballroom. The tinkling of champagne glasses, the sounds of a live band, and twinkling tea lights surrounded me. I realized I was in the midst of a wedding. The film "Wedding Crashers" flitted across my mind. Before I could decide if I was more like Vince Vaughn or Owen Wilson a man in a suit approached me.
"Can I help ya ma'am?"
"Erm, yeah. Nineteen?" I was pretty confused. But the Lurch look alike pointed me down a winding corrider where I finally managed to reach the bar.
I felt like I had to trek a mile to get to the bar and in high heels, this was no easy task. I was out of breath and famished by the time I met my date. We sat in a little booth along the back wall. I was impressed. The ambiance was cozy and it had lovely views of the bustling city around us.
As an avid traveler and having lived in five different cities, most Philadelphia hang outs don't impress me. The decor reminded me of an old library. Very baroque with its dark woods and paintings. It was enchanting. The big fireplace in the center of the room was perfect. Philadelphia needed something like this.
We had a few drinks and ordered some food to share. The french fries were terrific, but the crabcake was the most horrible thing I have ever consumed in my entire life. Perhaps the wedding got the better selection of food?
Our waitress was a sweet girl, but I felt like it took forever for her to ever get back and forth to our table. Call me needy or high maintenance, but I just like prompt service.
Overall, I had a good time. It was nice to sit next to my date in a private booth and not have to be screaming over a loud soundtrack. The ambiance is great, but the food was lacking. I am sure I will be back for drinks, but I won't be wearing 6inch stilettos.
