Kanella

Profile
A refreshing change from the grape leaves and iceberg-feta salads that have passed for Greek fare until now, this BYOB is welcoming, with whitewashed walls, exposed brick and unvarnished wood. The mishmash of neighbors and food enthusiasts fills up every seat to feast on unfussy fare like whole grilled fish stuffed with herbs, rabbit with homemade yogurt, and the freshly baked bread and hand-crafted tahini.

After many rave reviews about the food, we decided to try Kanella for a Saturday night dinner. Our choices -- pork tenderloin and the whole fish special -- were good though not outstanding. What ruined the dining experience was the arrogant and supercilious service. When my wife expressed her discomfort at receiving her fish with the head on, and asked that it be filleted in the kitchen rather than at the table, our waiter told us he "understood" but that it was the "chef's preference" to fillet at the table because, you see, it is "about the presentation." And so that is exactly what happened. And on top of this affront to the very notion of customer service, the fish was so poorly de-boned (I certainly hope not intentionally) that it was barely edible. If you live in the neighborhood, I'm sure this would be a great choice for take out. Otherwise, I'd give it a pass.

If you like Greek food and don't want to spend a ton of money like another place in downtown then go to Kanella. Sat outside and outside of the motorcycle's driving by it was a nice experience.
Lamb and fish were tasty, fresh and prepared to a tee. Maybe next time I would ask to sit indoors.

in very simple words, simplicity is the main philosophy of Kanella.
and simplicity is difficult to achieve, and by the looks of they are doing it,in a very correct manner.this restaurant is a s authentic as it gets.good food overall.
