Chef Christian Gatti (along with his former food-writer wife, April Lisante) has created a menu where French meets Italian and dinner meets dessert. Some ideas need to percolate a while longer; the grilled shrimp and fluffy gnocchi with pistachio pesto were the best dishes sampled.

we have been to avril three times and had uniformly wonderful dining experiences. the service is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, the setting is romantic, the menu is creative and most importantly, the food is consistently outstanding. the chef/owner comes to the table during the meal to briefly chat and makes you feel as if you are visiting his home. this restaurant is a welcome addition to the main line, where good dining options are scarce. probably one of the worst restaurants i have been to in a long while. I will never go back. It is a disgrace what they try to pass off as french food. The dessert was inedible. I would have done better buying a box of jello. Save your stomach and wallet and do not go here!!!!! Posted by judi: Jan. January 25th, 2010 at 12:34 PM
