Created as an elegant sanctuary and private residence for 19th Century industrialist John Pitcairn and his family, Cairnwood Estate is an architectural masterpiece from the Gilded Age with meticulous decorative elements blending influences from classical Greek and Roman architecture with French Renaissance inspirations. The exterior of Cairnwood shows a mixture of rustic elements and high style. The overall effect is that of a majestic French chateau that is a spectacular setting available for weddings and special occasions.
The Cairnwood team are happy to show the venue in person with social distancing or through virtual tours. Clients are personally walked through the Estate and are encouraged to think of the castle as their own home for the day. The Estate's preferred caterers will customize menus and create a unique guest experience.
Cairnwood is offering $500 off the rental fee plus flexible rescheduling/cancellation options to couples that wish to reserve the Estate for their reception in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022.
For over a century, Cairnwood has been hosting wedding receptions within its halls. The tradition began with John and Gertrude Pitcairn opening their home for a marriage celebration in 1896. Today, the Estate hosts one exclusive reception per day. The distinguished architecture, terraces, grand staircase, balconies, and flowering gardens inspire couples to welcome guests into their own private and spacious mansion for a unique and memorable celebration.
"Cairnwood was the venue of our dreams!!! The venue itself is stunning. Every inch of the Cairnwood Estate is photo-worthy, both inside and out on the grounds. The layout of the mansion lends itself to a unique wedding day with an intimate but elegant feel. The set-up of the bride and groom dressing rooms made for a memorable and comfortable morning. Our guests enjoyed cocktail hour, mingling out in the garden and wandering through the different rooms of the house. Dinner on the back patio was lovely, with romantic views of the cathedral and mansion. We ended the night with dancing in the great hall. Truly spectacular-- we felt whisked away to a different time! In addition to the beautiful details of the estate, Cairnwood's approach to the wedding day allows for customization based on your preferences and budget. It's more of a "build-it-yourself" wedding venue, in that you bring in your own vendors. This means more planning but also more personalization. The staff were very helpful in offering suggestions and guidance throughout the wedding planning process. We felt they were truly invested in helping us achieve our specific vision. We loved Cairnwood so much that we now attend other events throughout the year (Christmas Tea, Valentine's Day) to reminisce on our special day. We feel so lucky to have been a Cairnwood couple! Thank you, Cairnwood!! "
"The pictures speak for itself. We received endless compliments on the beauty of this wedding venue. It is a magical place to have a wedding reception. Not only is it a breathtaking property, the staff are all very professional and were a pleasure to plan a wedding with. They were all very helpful and we could not be happier with our decision to have our reception here."
"Our wedding was a fairy tale thanks to Cairnwood. Everything was beautiful and we couldn't be happier with our wedding day. The grounds at Cairnwood are immaculate. The estate, the tent, the grounds, the bridal/grooms suite- everything was stunning. Everyone we worked with was wonderful from start to finish!"

The first floor has six spacious rooms encompassing 6,000 square feet, offering the perfect setting and ambiance for social gatherings. The heart of the house is the Great Hall with a ceiling soaring two stories high, a massive carved stone fireplace, an elegant staircase, and pilasters with ionic capitals. The barrel vaulted ceiling is reminiscent of the New York Public Library’s famous Astor Hall, which Carrère and Hastings designed in 1897. Three Roman arches frame French doors accessing the 100 foot flagstone terrace, sprawling lawn, and fountain garden.
