Reel Big Fish and Anti-Flag @ The Fillmore | Thursday, January 19
Reel Big Fish struck it, um, real big in the ’90s with the song “Sell Out,” as part of the ska craze. They also had a hit with their cover of A-ha’s “Take On Me.” They’ve been playing since then, but with an awful lot of lineup changes: Lead singer/guitarist Aaron Barrett is the only original member. Anti-Flag is a punk band out of Pittsburgh.

The Lemon Twigs @ Underground Arts | Thursday, January 19
Brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario are only in their teens, but they come across much more mature with their ’70s pop rock sound. In October they released their debut, Do Hollywood, on British label 4AD, which made a splash in the 1980s with artists like the Pixies and Modern English.

Kings of Leon @ Wells Fargo Center | Thursday, January 19
The Followill brothers and cousin are on tour in support of WALLS (We Are Like Love Songs), their seventh studio album and the first to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It’s not a huge departure from their earlier work, so fans will likely be feeling it. Deerhunter is the special guest.

Khalid @ Foundry at the Fillmore | Friday, January 20
Here’s another young’un you should be paying attention to. According to his label, Khalid’s mother is a singer with the Army and growing up he lived in a few spots in the U.S. and Germany. In high school in El Paso, Texas, Khalid went viral with “Location,” a song about moving a lot, and RCA Records/Right Hand Music Group signed him. His debut is slated to come out early this year.

The Smithereens @ World Café Live | Friday, January 20
The four original members of New Jersey’s own The Smithereens are getting back together for four concerts this month, starting with their Philly stop. Take a listen to “A Girl Like You,” “Blood and Roses” or “Only a Memory” and you’ll probably start humming along.

Davina and the Vagabonds @ Chris’ Jazz Café | January 20-21
With their New Orleans sound, you wouldn’t guess this jazz-and-blues band, led by Davina Sowers on vocals, piano and ukulele, is based out of Minnesota. Since forming in 2006, the band has released three studio albums, including 2016’s Nicollet and Tenth. They’re doing two shows on Friday and two on Saturday, but the 8 p.m. on Saturday is sold out (and it’s looking like tickets for the 8 p.m. on Friday will be gone very soon). Here they are performing at Daryl Hall’s club, Daryl’s House:
