BalletX Summer Series @ The Wilma Theater | July 6-17
Choreographers Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and BalletX co-founder Matthew Neenan team up with “experiential art shop” Klip Collective for two world premiere ballets backed by video projections. Ochoa’s work is inspired by surrealist painter Rene Magritte (he did the apple-face man in the bowler hat, like in the photo above); Neenan’s is in honor of the late writer Toni Hamilton.

As Is @ Little Berlin | July 8-10
Recent Penn grad Kaitlin Pomerantz, who went for an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art, is installing a site-specific multimedia project outside the Little Berlin gallery in Kensington. The opening reception is Saturday, and on Sunday there will be a Q&A with Pomerantz, artist Mariel Capanna and historian Paul M. Farber.

Colored Girls Museum Festival @ FringeArts | Saturday, July 9
FringeArts lends its performance venue to the Colored Girls Museum for a party with art, music and dancing. The museum debuted in last year’s Fringe Fest and is now open every Sunday in its Germantown space.

On To Something Beautiful @ Bazemore Gallery | Saturday, July 9
In addition to being an abstract expressionist painter and founder of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation and Rush Arts Gallery, Danny Simmons is the big brother of Russell Simmons, co-founder of Def Jam Records, and Joseph Simmons from Run-DMC. Saturday is the opening reception for his exhibit at the Bazemore Gallery; the works will be up until September.

Stephen Millner @ The Resource Exchange | Sunday, July 10
Check out assemblage art by Stephen Millner, who uses recycled and salvaged materials, including things he finds at The Resource Exchange. Sunday is the artist reception; the exhibit will be up (and for sale) through the end of the month.

Jennifer Summerfield goes mad in this one-woman stage version of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s unnerving, feminist tale, directed by Josh Hitchens.

Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story @ Bucks County Playhouse | Through July 16
Well, we know this one isn’t going to have a happy ending. But in the meantime, enjoy 1950s hits from Holly and others woven into a play about the young rocker’s rise to fame.
