Ghanaian Film Posters @ PhilaMOCA
| Wednesday, April 6
This is an exhibition of hand-painted film posters created in the 1980s to advertise screenings of bootlegged movies in Ghana — sometimes to villages with no electricity. The inventive creations by these “outsider artists” offer alternate, sometimes fantastical interpretations of the familiar Hollywood properties. The posters are on loan from the Deadly Prey Gallery in Chicago, which is dedicated to collecting these amazing pieces of art (and which has a killer Instagram).

The Nether @ InterAct | Through April 17
Theater critic David Fox enjoyed this production of Jennifer Haley’s play, for the most part: “The Nether, smoothly directed at InterAct by Seth Rozin, is a gripping 80 minutes that will give you a lot to think about.”

Action is Primary @ Icebox | April 6-23
Meg Foley’s “exhibition of improvisational research and performance.” Features dancers Kristel Baldoz, Marysia Stokłosa, and Annie Wilson.

(re)Focus Fest 2016! @ The Rotunda | April 7-10
Sounds like a busy four days of independent, socially conscious theater: “Through poetic dialogue, immersive soundscapes, and lyrical movement, Kaleid Theatre, Power Street Theatre Company, [redacted] Theater Company, and TS Hawkins meditate on gender, race, sexuality, class, and everything in between.”

Mano @ FringeArts | Friday, April 8
New Paradise Laboratories invites the public to try out Mano, their “theatrically-devised sport.” “Come dressed to move and sweat.” Happy hour to follow. Free till you drink.

Source River: A Weekend of Grotowski Basics @ Mascher Space | April 8-10
Taught by Tanya Marquardt, Almanac, and Lightning Rod Special. “Rivers are a series of somatic forms through which an artists’ impulses can be expressed as physical imagery.”

The Art of Dre Grigoropol @ AIR Gallery | April 9-May 13
Dre Grigoropol is a Moore grad and a comics creator and teacher. From what I’ve seen, her work is often fun and touching: Check it out. Also, see below. Saturday’s opening also features a “Life Drawing Event” presented by the Cosplay Life Drawing Club. Presented by 40th Street Artist-in-Residence Program.
