M. Night Shyamalan Philly-Shot Film Split Gets Release Date

The chattering classes have been whispering about M. Night Shyamalan‘s next project for a while, but with little to go on except that he’s working with a local casting agency and shooting it in Philly, and that it will star X-Men: Days of Future Past star James McAvoy. Today, we’re learning a lot more with Deadline breaking news that the film will be called Split and it has a release date: January 20, 2017.

The Universal Pictures project will be a collaboration between Shyamalan and Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions. Deadline describes it as a supernatural suspense thriller, because what else would it be?! Besides McAvoy, it will star Anya Taylor Joy, Jessica SulaHaley Lu Richardson and Betty Buckley, who starred in Shyamalan’s 2008 film The Happening.

Shyamalan’s last movie, indie horror flick The Visit, was also released via Blumhouse and Universal. The team that worked on that picture will come back to work on Split, including producer Marc Bienstock and executive producers Ashwin Rajan and Steven Schneider.

Greater Philadelphia Film Office Executive Director Sharon Pinkenson confirms shooting will begin in Philadelphia in mid-November. Stay tuned for more details.
