Taylor Swift Leads American Music Awards Nominations

If she wins them all—and let's face it, she probably will—she'll beat Whitney Houston's record for most wins for a female artist.

The American Music Awards nominations were announced this morning on Good Morning America and, unsurprisingly, Wyomissing’s Taylor Swift leads the pack with six nominations for her latest album, 1989, and a handful of its songs. According to Flavorwire, if she wins them all—and let’s face it, she probably will—she will beat a record held by Whitney Houston for most AMA wins (22) for a female artist. She’ll also be a stone’s throw from Michael Jackson’s most-wins-overall record: 26 wins. Among Swift’s nominations are the highly coveted Artist and Song of the Year.

There’s not much more Philly on the list of nominations. Temple grad Diplo is nominated for Collaboration of the Year for his team up with Skrillex and Justin Bieber on “Where Are Ü Now?” The Lee Daniels-produced Empire is nominated in the Top Soundtrack category. And Swedish electro-pop princess Tove Lo is up for New Artist of the Year. She’s not local, but she’s performing in Philly at Fillmore Philadelphia this week.
