World-renown dance company PHILADANCO returns to the stage of The Dell Music Center Friday with more talent and diversified acts than ever before, and for a price that won’t break your bank. Tickets are as low as $10, which Philadelphia Dance Company Founder and organizer Joan Myers Brown says makes the art from more accessible to the community. “We want to give them an opportunity to see PHILADANCO and other artists at a ticket price they can afford.”

The fourth annual Founder’s Day Concert will feature work by not only PHILADANCO’s company dancers, but also their promising youth company, D/3, and their talented apprentice company, D/2. Special guest artists Waheed Works, Dance Iquail, Fuego Dance and Roger Lee Dance will also perform.

“We also bring in some emerging dance groups and other guest artists to make it a full evening of dance,” Brown says. “It’s not just PHILADANCO dancers, and that’s why we call it Founder’s Day.”

Founded in 1970, PHILADANCO is celebrating its 45th birthday this year. It was established as an outlet for African American dancers who were denied entrance to other local dance studios. Since, PHILADANCO has grown into an established company widely recognized for its diverse dancers, artistic integrity and powerful performances. Staying true to their roots, the company is also committed to preserving traditional African American dance.

The show will feature mostly contemporary style dance, but with the array of guest artists performing, audiences will definitely be kept on their toes and always entertained.

“This show is a very diverse program that includes all types of dance,” Brown says. “There’s something to make everyone feel good about dance.”
