WATCH: Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s PA-Shot Grandparent Thriller The Visit

The trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s latest thriller, The Visit, is finally here. Shyamalan shot the low-budget thriller in Philly and around his home in rural Pennsylvania, with some shots taking place during the huge snowstorm we had last February. At the time, he was calling the film Sundowning, but now it has been picked up by Universal Pictures and given the new title.

Grandpa just taking the hatchet out for a walk.

The film stars Kathryn Hahn (Parks and Recreation, Happyish) as a mother of two who takes her kids to visit their grandparents. The first day is great. the grandparents dote on their grandkids, make biscuits, smiles abound. But then it’s bedtime and Grandpa says something strange: “Bedtime here is 9:30. It’s probably best you two shouldn’t come out of your room after that.”

Now i know what you’re thinking: Grandma and Grandpa are looking for some private hanky-panky time before bed, but no. Grandma and Grandpa go a little nuts after the lights are out. I’m talking scratching-the-walls, darting-across-the-room-for-no-reason nuts. And by the looks of the trailer, their bizarre behavior continues through to the next day.

The kids Skype their mom: “Grandma and Grandpa are acting strange, we want to come home.”

Her response? “Oh, they’re just old.”

Who knows what’s going to happen to these kids (especially after Grandma asks the little girl to get in the oven to clean it), but I’m kind of excited to find out. The film, a grandparent thriller, if you will, is slated for a September 11th release date. Check out the trailer below.
