Taylor Swift Donates $50,000 to New York Public Schools

Wyomissing native Taylor Swift has made good on her promise to donate proceeds from her song “Welcome to New York” to the New York public school system.

Though there hasn’t been an official announcement from Swift’s camp, Capital New York confirms that the “Shake It Off” singer donated $50,000 to the Department of Education. And that may not be the last of her generosity.

Spin reports that “‘Welcome to New York’ has almost certainly sold more than that figure, so it’s unclear at this point if Swift’s donation is just one installment of many or if it’s the only one. In any case, city schools probably appreciate the donation. It’s enough money to buy 20,000 subway rides or 50,000 slices of dollar pizza.”

Here’s hoping her next single is titled “Welcome to Philadelphia,” and she’s feeling just as generous.
