Philadelphia Orchestra Announces 2015-16 Season


The Philadelphia Orchestra announces their 2015-16 season this evening at 5:30PM at a special event at the Kimmel Center. However, we have a sneak peek of the exciting music that these master artists will be performing through 2016.

Some highlights of the season include:

  • Yannick conducting Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, otherwise known as “Symphony of a Thousand,” which premiered in the U.S. a hundred years ago at the Academy of Music.
  • A yearlong celebration of a dozen world or U.S. premieres by the Orchestra.
  • A three-week Music of Vienna festival in January.
  • A special tribute to John Williams featuring Yo-Yo Ma and the composer himself on the podium for one-night only.
  • Staged versions of Handel’s Messiah and Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale.
  • Guest conductors Fabio Luisi and James Levine will take the podium.
