The Philadelphia Orchestra announces their 2015-16 season this evening at 5:30PM at a special event at the Kimmel Center. However, we have a sneak peek of the exciting music that these master artists will be performing through 2016.

Some highlights of the season include:

  • Yannick conducting Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, otherwise known as “Symphony of a Thousand,” which premiered in the U.S. a hundred years ago at the Academy of Music.
  • A yearlong celebration of a dozen world or U.S. premieres by the Orchestra.
  • A three-week Music of Vienna festival in January.
  • A special tribute to John Williams featuring Yo-Yo Ma and the composer himself on the podium for one-night only.
  • Staged versions of Handel’s Messiah and Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale.
  • Guest conductors Fabio Luisi and James Levine will take the podium.

The Opening Night Gala is scheduled for September 30, 2015. You can find out more about the season announcement here.
