Philly’s Evan Jonigkeit in Mysterious Amazing Spider-Man 2 Post-Credits Scene
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 doesn’t open in the U.S. until May 2, but an early release in the U.K. has fans abuzz — not because of the film’s, but because a mysterious post-credits scene features a sequence from the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past.
According to film blog Worst Previews, the scene finds Philly’s Mauckingbird Theatre alum Evan Jonigkeit (as Toad) along with Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and Lucas Till (Havok) fighting Josh Helman (William Stryker) and a gaggle of military dudes (video clip below.)
So why is there an X-Men clip, which is owned by 20th Century Fox, at the end of a Spider-Man movie, which is owned by Sony? Could we be expecting a film hybrid soon? Worst Previews says probably not:
We previously heard of Disney/Marvel considering cross-promotion with other studios, but Sony and Fox got together and created their own deal.
That deal was set in place thanks to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb, who had an existing contract with Fox to direct another film following his (500) Days of Summer. The studio had a contractual grip on Webb, but decided to let him direct his Spider-Man sequel as long as Sony promoted the studio’s X-Men film for free.
After seeing the sequence, fans are assuming that the Spider-Man and X-Men franchises will soon merge into one film. At this point, not such plan is in place. Instead, each studio is focusing on expanding the Marvel characters that they own into larger universes.
X-Men: Days of Future Past opens in Philly May 23. Here’s an amateur video of the Spider-Man 2 post-credits scene below.
