PHOTOS: Fairmount Art Crawl Kicks Off the Spring Street Festival Season With Kids, Art and a Birthday Party

On Sunday afternoon, the Fairmount Community Development Corporation hosted one of the city’s first block parties of the season, the 10th annual Fairmount Arts Crawl. The event seeks to “convert local businesses, bars, stores, cafés, restaurants and sidewalks into temporary galleries in order to showcase local artists, vendors and musicians.” It was a great day for it, with families flooding the streets to take part in crafts, face paintings, gallery crawls and other art-filled activities.

The afternoon also served as a mini birthday party for the Fairmount Art Center, which celebrated its 10th year in business. City Councilman Bill Greenlee showed up to mark the occasion, presenting owner Jill Markovitz with a proclamation from the mayor for inspiring art in the Fairmount and Queen Village communities.
