The Philadelphia Songwriters Project launched its 11th annual songwriting contest last week looking for talented area musicians to sing it out for a chance to join a pretty sweet summer tour through Pennsylvania.

This year hopefuls of any genre are asked to submit tunes under the theme “Which Songs Made You the Most Satisfied to Write.” Entries will be judged and narrowed down until 12 to 14 finalists are chosen to perform in front of a live audience and panel of “celebrity” judges on May 18.

Four winners and two alternates will have the chance to join a seven-stop summer tour throughout the state that includes engagements at the Firefly, Wawa Welcomes America and Philadelphia Folk festivals.

The point of the contest is to “maximize the songwriters exposure to next level industry people who may be able to advance an artist’s career.” The roster of artists to have performed with PSP in the past includes some big namers, like Amos LeeBirdie BuschAdrien RejuAndrew Lipke and Mutlu.

PSP is taking submissions through March 14. Finalists will be chosen April 11, and those contestants will perform in a live showcase at Underground Arts on May 18. That’s when the winners will be chosen. For more details about entry, prizes and guidelines, go here.
