HughE Dillon: Sixers Help Toys for Tots

Philly's pro basketballers get caught up in spirit of the season

The Philadelphia 76ers team welcomed home Iraq war veterans and collected toys for Toys for Tots at their “Home for the Holidays” event yesterday in the rotunda at the Shops at Liberty Place. Here, Sgt. Johnson and Specialist Grant greet players Thaddeus Young, Lou Williams, Andre Iguodala and Tony Battie as Sixers coach Doug Collins looks on. Fans who brought a new, unwrapped toy to the event received a wristband that allowed them into an autograph session, as well as a voucher for the team’s home opener on Friday, January 6th at 7 p.m. against the Detroit Pistons. Johnson and Grant told me they just got back from Iraq five days ago, and they were excited to be home for the holidays. They are stationed at Fort Dix in New Jersey. I thanked them for their service. Happy Holidays to all my readers at The Philly Post!
