HughE Dillon: The Secret Behind Monica Malpass’s Fresh Look

Plus dinner at Barbuzzo, and a fashionable cocktail party at Joan Shepp

On Wednesday, partners Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran opened the long-anticipated restaurant Barbuzzo. I was at the new rustic Mediterranean restaurant on 13th Street in Midtown Village with my mom and two friends on Monday night for a “Friends and Family Dinner.” Many people came out, including James McManaman and David White, from Absolute Abstract Art, (left, with Safran).

Plenty of fashionable folks attended the Joan Shepp cocktail party and fashion show this week to kick off Fashion Month in Philadelphia and for the introduction of the Fall/Winter Collection of Y3. OUT AND ABOUT
On Monday night, the kick-off dinner for the filming of the Kendra reality show was held at her favorite restaurant, Olive Garden. At the last minute Kendra backed out and stayed home with the “Hanks” she told me, but the crew went and they had a delicious time. No word on whether they enjoyed her favorite meal, “the endless pasta bowl.”

Also Monday night, I hear that Vanity Fair editor, Graydon Carter, was seen in the lobby of the Le Meridien.

I ran into Monica Malpass recently and complimented her on her young, fresh look. She says she’s heard the “rumors,” but has not gone under the knife. What she did do is freshen her look with a new hairstyle — with a cut and highlights done at Studio CL with Tanya at 19th and Sansom. But another person, Galina Lebedinsky, did the Brazilian straightening treatment that really gave it the “look.” Malpass says that Lebedinsky is a “concierge stylist” who comes to your house. And that amazing body? Well, Monica worked out everyday, ate healthy and told me she pushes the twins in their carriage at least five miles a day. I think all her hard work has paid off; she looks like a million bucks.
