HughE Dillon: The Cupcake Lady’s Center City Sale

Plus a Rittenhouse Row party and Ben Franklin eats local

Philadelphia made negative national news again this week when the city confiscated the Cupcake Lady’s Truck on Tuesday. But on Wednesday, the Cupcake Lady, Kate Carrara, was back in business at the Mayor’s Farmer Market at Love Park, after her husband Andy paid the $200 fine to get the truck back. For now Carrara will pay better attention to where her licenses allow her to sell her popular sweets.

On Thursday, Bachelorette contestant Reid Rosenthal crossed paths with one tough cookie: former Philadelphia D.A. Lynne Abraham, on 18th Street near Chestnut at 1 p.m. American Idol judge Randy Jackson, and his wife and kids were seen near Independence Hall taking in the sights around 3 p.m. Reba McEntire and her crew stopped in for dinner at D’Angelo’s around 8 p.m. They’re currently on tour, and the next stop is at Harrington Raceway in Delaware on Saturday.

Sightings at XIX restaurant at the Hyatt at the Bellevue on Thursday Night: WMMR DJ Pierre Robert, Michael Byrne, of Action AIDS, Kevin Burns, executive director of Action AIDS, Matt Vlahos, Robb Reichard, executive director of AIDS Fund Philly, and Rhonda Goldfein, executive director of AIDS Law Project. At a balcony table were Mary Patel, George Bochetto, Christy Adams, Thom Cardwell, Richard Wolff, and James Duggan; at another balcony table were Anthony Geistwite and Vincent Vienne. They were all there for Bar AIDS Philadelphia, where a portion of proceeds from the purchases of cocktails or coffee went to fight HIV/AIDS.
