What are the Differences Between Assisted Living and Personal Care?

The Hearth at Drexel is here to help!

When you or your loved one is moving to a retirement community, it’s important to understand the various levels of care so that you and your family can feel confident you’ve made the right decision. The Hearth at Drexel, a licensed premier assisted living community, gives residents and their families peace of mind.

Three BIG differences between assisted living communities and personal care homes:

1. Aging in Place
“At The Hearth, when our residents need higher levels of care, they stay in the place they know as home with the caregivers who know and love them. This brings incredible comfort to our residents and their families,” says Executive Director of The Hearth, Dana O’Donnell. Additionally, we bring medical, therapy and diagnostic services to our residents for convenience and support for their health.

2. Construction and Layout
Assisted living communities like The Hearth provide private apartments for each individual resident, unlike personal care homes that may have shared rooms.

3. Staffing Requirements
An assisted living community must have a licensed nurse on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A registered dietitian must also be on staff. “We have licensed nurses working around the clock, while many personal care homes do not,” Dana affirms.
